BIRTHDAY BOYS AND GIRLS

Some of us were blessed with Glastobirthdays, being born in late June has many advantages. Being 6 months from Christmas is good, the sun is out occasionally, and people don't cheapskate you with combined birthday/christmas presents. However, nothing beats the pleasure of a Glastonbirthday.

2009 will be my 4th such gift from Mr Eavis & co, and I turn the BIG 40 on the Thursday to boot. My missus and two of my mates are also celebrating turning 40 this year so it's gonna be a hoot :D . Watch out for a gang of oil sheikhs speaking in tongues.

I wonder how many other people share this blessing and if anyone else will be celebrating this year. It would be great to meet up with other Glastobirthdayers.

PEACE

To celebrate this year I will be wearing an oil sheikh's outfit (for no good reason) and be accompanied by a handful of other oil sheikhs (and a sheikhess). I wondered if we might crash your party? If so, when is it? It sounds like you need some ageing oil sheikhs to provide some Glastodiversity to your colourful proceedings.

"We'll do the sheikh and vacpac and put the freshness back, do the sheikh and vacpac and put the freshness back. If your wellies aren't clean, or smell of poo, with the sheilkh and vacpac, you'll know what to do"

If you think that is random...check out

and then imagine it with the new Sheikh lyrics. Sheikh, Rattle and Roll on Glastonbury, yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah

See you at the Stone Circle or somewhere else. What time is your party by the way???

PEACE

i did spend my 20th in amsterdam though, which is also a pretty decent place to be.

My Dads birthday is 21st June so we have had a few birthdays at Glasto. Next year he will be 60 and his birthday will fall on the Monday before but we will be having a party at Glasto and we are even thinking of having a Glasto themed party the weekend before Glasto for him too!

Do any of the birthday people have any traditions on their birthday? I always treat myself to a jerk chicken dinner with sweetcorn and rice at the Jazz Stage. And I always make sure I eat some cake. Space cake. With a candle on the top of it ....

Glastonbury being on is the only way I remember it's my dad's birthday at some point that weekend. Been offered the chance to go straight to Padstow post festy for a slap up meal at Rick Stein's to celebrate with him...this will be decided dependant on weather! :) Dont think they'll appreciate me turning up caked in mud!

  • 3 weeks later...

On Saturday the 27th I will be celebrating my 30th Birthday.

I know a lot of people probably think that it would be great to celebrate a birthday at Glastonbury, but I have always found that I completely overdo it and end up missing the bands I really want to see.

My first ever Glastonbury was in 97. I turned 18 on the Friday and have very little recollection of the entire weekend. I wore a big '18th birthday' badge which led to generous strangers giving me copious amounts of free drinks and narcotics (a good tip for all you youngsters strapped for cash at the festival this year :) ).

Last year on the Friday was no better as I missed Kings of Leon who I really wanted to see. I was all cosy in my sleeping bag back at my tent having lost my mind earlier in the day somewhere in the dance village.

So should I try and pace myself this year or just go with the flow? Really dont want to miss the likes of Kasabian and especially Animal Collective later in the evening.
