Bands that have NEVER played Reading

Looking back through the line ups from previous years & using my own (slightly fuzzy) memory of 14 years of Reading attending I was wondering if you could think of any bands that have never played Reading (or Leeds) that really should have?

I'm not talking about up & coming new bands as obviously there will be a few of them but large, internationally known ones? When NIN played a few years back & Pearl Jam the year before that pretty much crossed off all the ones I can think of - Nirvana, Green Day, Iron Maiden, Oasis, RHCP, Radiohead, Eminem, RATM, Blur, Metallica etc. Should probably also discount anything pre 1990 as otherwise people may just yell Rolling Stones or Beatles although checking the old posters I can see bands like The Police, Black Sabbath, Thin Lizzy, Meat Loaf have all appeared.

I did think I'd nailed it with Coldplay but then I noticed they opened the NME tent back in 1999 (under Toploader LOL :P ) & the only other big bands I can think who haven't appeared (to the best of my knowledge) are U2 who don't really do festivals or REM but they're not really what you'd call a classic Reading band?

I'll give you half a point for Guns 'n' Roses as they've played Leeds but not Reading

Any other nominations?

Some good shouts - some not so good. Here are my thoughts so this is where the arguments start... :P

AC / DC, Kiss, ZZ Top - don't recall them playing, obviously big rumours AC/DC might do this year but would have expected them more in the pre 90's years. Would probably split opinion if they ever did play as they'd no doubt headline & cause great debate between the 'legendary act deservedly placed / past it rockers should have retired years ago' argument. I'd rather they didn't to be honest as they're not my thing. Leave them to Download

Opeth - not sure Reading has ever really had a death metal presence? I stand to be corrected.

Korn, Rammstein - good shouts & with the previous 'metal' days would have expected them to show up somewhere.

The Smiths - half a banana, Morrissey has played & think he did a few Smiths songs.

Shellac - pass, don't know too much about them.

My Bloody Valentine - think they may have appeared in the early 90's? Can't be bothered to check at this point, I'll get back to you. They have reformed of course so don;t write them off yet...

Led Zep - Another close call as Page & Plant have played. Didn't see them so can't say if they did any Led Zep numbers, would have thought they must have though?

Neil Young & Paul Weller - both played 95

Bruce Springsteen, Ray Davies, Brian Wilson - no haven't played but can't really in all honesty see them ever doing so. I've just about recovered from the "it's too indie" debate without opeing up the "it's too middle of the road / full of aging past it rockers" one! Glastonbury seems to specialise in this sort of booking.

REM - Similar to the above, maybe a bit too Radio 2 for the discerning Reading crowd? Nothing hideously wrong with them but think Reading goers expect a bit more 'bite' to their bands?
