Interesting iPhone app developed for Glastonbury

Check it out:

Glastonbury Festival iPhone Application

I will add emphasis to what I found interesting in the blurb about it:

The application includes an interactive map of the festival featuring all the of sites and landmarks and allows for all of the main stages to be touched in order to display the band line-ups.

Users will also be able to listen and buy the songs through iTunes or add the band to their personalised festival schedule.

Once the festival has begun the application will use GPS to show users exactly where they are on the interactive map. It is also possible to drop signposts or markers to places they want to find again e.g. their tent, car, meeting place, food, clean toilet etc.

Mubaloo have also added some fun challenges for app users (e.g. 'Glow in the dark!') and the app prompts users to take pictures once they have completed these challenges.

The app 'Glastonbury 2009' will be available for download two weeks before Glastonbury through the iTunes App Store.

Versions for other festivals are in development, and future releases will help people find each other by sharing the location of signposts and GPS location.

It's a nice idea, but as you say GPS will drain the battery quickly. I only have a 1st gen iPhone so GPS is no use to me anyway, but I will be leaving it at home and taking an el cheapo Orange PAYG phone I bought specifically for festivals. My experiences with O2 at Glastonbury are not great, texts taking days to arrive, 10+ attempts to connect when making calls etc etc. I'm hoping Orange (as sponsors) provide extra capacity over the weekend?

Just seems like it will be taking all the fun out of the festival, I like getting lost as you find new things. Also, whats wrong with the neck thing they give you with the line up?! Hmmmm

I'll be taking an old school nokia too with a spare battery, leaving my blackberry at home.

thats exactly what I want to know to, so I can use a rubbish old phone with my existing number, Im guessing it will, just without the internet bits that that iphone has, but would like confirmation from peeps before I go and buy a rubbish payg one.

In reply yes the sim card does work in other phones , as long as they are not locked-blocked on other networks as I hve been using mine in a spare old phone on a recent canoeing trip . As much as I would like to take my iPhone the battery life is just shocking !

Old school nokia all the way I think :(

To each their own and all that, but I personally never take anything to a festival that I would be fussed if I didn't come back with! (ID and return ticket aside!)

yeah iphone sim works fine in any phone unlocked or locked on 02 - just test it before you go!!

even if the app runs on gps you still need a decent signal to get the map right? unless the app has the glasto site loaded on it which would make sense. its all very well having gps to tell you where you are, but using the normal iphone maps app, you need the internet to tell you where you are compared to anything else!!

i willl personally not be taking my iphone. i guess if you have insurance it wouldnt matter too much about having it theived, but the battery is so poor i think its just too much hassle!! plus itll be nice not to have access to emails etc for a wee while!!

old nokia alll the way. i reccomend the 1100 - has a handy torch and one battery should last all of glasto - get one off ebay for £10 or less.
