2 stoves, 2 pots, what do we cook?

We're doing Glasto & Benni this year, so we're on a bit of a budget & thought we'd save a heap of cash by cooking for ourselves. There's 6 of us, going Wednesday to Monday, what would you recommend as a feast?

Obvious things are pasta with a range of sauces, but I was wondering if anyone could give me a bit of inspiration?

The person with the best idea gets to try some!

Yeah, can't go wrong with anything based around pasta, noodles, rice, etc..

I've given up on cooking at festivals because of the extra stuff you need to take, but in the past I've turned out some nice pasta/sauce/pita bread based delights that have allowed me to do the festival on a shoestring budget...the real downside is preparation time on camping cooking gear, it's a nightmare so be prepared to allow plenty of time between belly rumble and eating.

A fave of mine is a large tin of boiled potatoes.

Just need to warm them up on the stove.

A tin of good quality steak chunks in gravy, again, the steak is cooked so just needs heating.

A filling meal that will set you up for the day.

Potatoes = approx £0.49

Steak = £1.79

Just need to warm them up on the stove.

A tin of good quality steak chunks in gravy, again, the steak is cooked so just needs heating.

A filling meal that will set you up for the day.

Potatoes = approx £49

Steak = £1.79

Instant mash can work great too if you have the ability tio concentrate on cooking at glasto, but usually you need just the right amount of water and keep an eye on the consistancy.

Whereas the boiled potatoes and steak, lob potatoes in pan with water until the water boils, empty out the water and lob the steak with gravy in. Leave it cooking for further 5 mins and the whole thing will be red hot and yummy.

Making mash is a good idea but far too complicated for me as my usual festival cooking involves shoving stuff in a pan and having a beer until I smell the food starting to burn in the pan - I then know its cooked. LOL

May sound a bit bah humbug but always thought cookers/stoves/bbq's should be banned at Glasto.

Combination of too many small fires, too many drunk people and too many tents is a disaster wating to happen, God forbid.

Theres enough foodstands about the place, and places to get a nice breakfast cuppa and nosh of you want it, bringing your own cooking gear is not necessary.

ive decided to go with a tin of big breakfast for the morning (contains beans,sausage,bacon etc), packed stuff like mash and cous cous for later on and some cup a soups.

i appreciate what the person above is saying about safety and the amount of food joints available, however when youre going on a budget you could easily spend £18 on 3 meals a day, £6 on 3 coffees and thats without throwing the beers in ! i've catered food for 3 of us for 5 days for less than £12 each. that includes cereal bars and snacks to take around with us. plus theres nothing better than waking up in the morning and having a hot coffee before you do anything energetic for the day.

if you're cooking sensibly i cant see the trouble, plus i think the open campfires all over the place are just as dangerous, however there would be hell to pay if people werent allowed them

Best substitute for bread (which goes off quick in a hot tent) I found was wraps. They last for ages and wont go stale. I recommend bacon and avacodo and salad.

Also great for a BBQ or if you have a fire is mini-kebabs or simply steak on a stick I like to call it.

Get yourself a nice piece of rib-eye (Steak) or free-range chicken breast and season it up or marinade if you prefer.

Slice very, very thinly ( maybe 20 slices from a 8oz steak).

Thread 2 or more slices onto a bamboo kebab skewer and thats it. Each kebab takes only about 30 seconds to 1 min to cook. It is only a bite sizes portion. I do this as a kind of starter whilst waiting for the BBQ to be ready to cook proper. MMMmmm Flame grilled steak on a stick.
