Badly Drawn Boy live

I remember watching him at a Festival a few years back (apologies, can't remember which one). It was afternoon on the second stage. He just came across as really miserable. That said he's got quite a few good songs so if you like his stuff it'll be worth checking him out. Plus the crowd in The Avalon should be there 'for him' which should make for a decent atmosphere.

I'm shocked he's playing as I remember reading he said he wouldn't return until he was headlining, and he was very bitter about only being asked to play at the Other Stage in 2004 because Jet had been forced to pull out. He was also slagging Glasto off at Green Man last year, but he seems to have had a lot of his pride knocked out of him in recent years and was constantly apologising for a crap gig at Green Man, which it wasn't, apart from his occasional bitterness. Basically, if he's in a good mood he could be brilliant.

I may be wrong here, but are the bookers for Avalon different to the bigger stages? This, and the fact his hero Springsteen is playing, may have persuaded him back.

Main stage 2002 - great gig, great atmosphere.

A couple of months later, I saw him at V, apparently he had been in the VIP area for most of the day and was suitably refreshed. Terrible performance.

As has been saiid before, it really depends on how he feels on the day.

I saw him once at an indoor gig and he was excellent. Held the audience in the palm of his hand and he exchanged some witty banter with the crowd.

His encore consisted of him coming down off the stage and parting the audience in two as he worked his way to the back of the hall singing what appeared to be an improvised love song to an imaginary girl stood at the back.

Hard to believe it's the same bloke that previous contributors have described as miserable.

Maybe he was on a lot of drugs that night? Or maybe it was me?

He brought a big crowd to the Pyramid on Sunday in 2002 (around the time of About A Boy etc), but he was dull on the Other in 04.

I've seen him once inside and he was amazing so the initimacy of Avalon might make him worth a punt. It's weird how he's fallen away the last few years.

EDIT: As Lynne Scratch Perry - when I saw him in about '02 it was at the comedy store. With a very youthful Aidan Smith supporting. He (Aidan Smith) was very very good, if a little nervous and unprepared.

I saw him on the pyramid I guess in 2002, but pretty sure he was last minute replacemeent then for someone who pulled out. He seemed pretty bitter about that, and almost apologetic for thr "About a boy" thing. Seemed to be slagging of the organisers saying he'd been trying for ages to get booked for it, and them refusing.

He sounded much like his records. My Mrs enjoyed it.

He did the slagging off in 2004 on the Other Stage, Pyramid Stage was in 2002 and he was great then as he was keen to impress and charmingly nervous rather than rude and aggressive, which is him at his worst (2004)

He played Pyramid in 2002, but it was 2004 when he was in an arsey mood and complained about replacing Jet on the Other Stage.

He's RUBBISH! He dresses like a tramp and walks around Chorlton with little a plastic carrier bag....oh, you meant live in concert. :P

To be honest from my experience he is also pretty bad at that too. I saw him in a support role for R.E.M a while back and he played averagely. When it became apparent people were there to see R.E.M and not in fact him and so not really giving him 100% of their attention, he then started to insult the crowd and got in a huff. He continued to winge between every song until the end of his set.

badly used to be great live completly amatuerish and endearing i hate proffessionalism in music. i remember he gave every girl in the audience a rose, classy. but he seems to have sorted himself while his musics gone blind for me his early eps contain some of the best songs of the 90's the 1st album was good but he went mor after that and lost what made him special in the first place.

i saw rem live a few years ago every band supporting them were crap (even ones i liked) must remeber thou shalt not go to gigs at old trafford cricket club
