I've seen BDB several times and must have been lucky....brilliant at Shepherds Bush & the Royal Albery Hall, including the encore walk through the crowd - he even laughed and joked when someone tried to steal his hat. Also great at Bloomsbury Ballroom showcasing Born in The UK all the way through when it came out. On his day he's wicked, great self-deprecating banter, great songs...but I can see he could be taken as a bit moody - have seen him stop mid song when he wasnt happy with his own playing.

I think the upshot is that the stage will suit him, so will the crowd...if he plays a mini greatest hits it'll be awesome I reckon :P

I'm inclined to agree with most people here. I've seen him a number of times & he's pretty inconsistent, but I think tends to enjoy the smaller more intimate gigs, therefore to be in Avalon may be a good thing. Saying that he may be pissed off that he's not on one of the outdoor stages & just spend the hour slagging everything off! Thats the beauty of it, could go either way! I may pop in for a while to check him out, if I'm in the area :P

I'm shocked he's playing as I remember reading he said he wouldn't return until he was headlining, and he was very bitter about only being asked to play at the Other Stage in 2004 because Jet had been forced to pull out. He was also slagging Glasto off at Green Man last year, but he seems to have had a lot of his pride knocked out of him in recent years and was constantly apologising for a crap gig at Green Man, which it wasn't, apart from his occasional bitterness. Basically, if he's in a good mood he could be brilliant.

Saw the 2002 Pyramid slot and thought he was great - as someone else said on here, it was quite shambolic and he flitted between piano and guitar on stage on his own. I heard "You Were Right" that afternoon and it is still one of my favourite ever songs.

On a linked note, it seems that BDB was a late stand-in on the Other Stage in 2000 and that the other performances were scheduled. Finding this out led me to discover that the early afternoon running order on the Other Stage on Sunday in 2000 was as follows:

Mo Solid Gold, then Wilt, then Jack Lukeman, then The For Carnation (actually replaced by BDB), then Dark Star

Not sure that run of bands has stood the test of time well!! The previous day on the Other Stage at the same time was:

Soulwax, then Toploader, then Coldplay, then David Gray, then Feeder

Whatever happened to that Coldplay lot?
