My point is that if only the rich are going you will end up having a higher concentration of these types......rich knob ends!.........not all rich people are like that of course, but if an event is only open to the rich then it would be full of them..........and thats defo not an event/festival I would really, really, really love to go to......no matter the history of it............

I dont really see what your response has to do with my post.........sounds like it should be directed at Bombfrog...........unless Im missing something.........In his original post, which I replyed to, he mentioned basically how the law of supply and demand dictates the price of goods no matter what market, be it Tescos selling beans, or a tout selling a ticket.........this is very true..........people/business will sell items for as much as they can get...........Human Nature..........that is why I said vaild points, in certain respects....

Glastonbury have priced their tickets so as they will hopefully sell them all, primarily, and that they will be as inclusive as possible from a festival economic stand point........if they increased the price to what some may pay they will isolate more who can not afford the tickets and run the risk of not selling out the festival, which would be very damaging for it, as an organisation and to ME personally, not to mention all the charites that rely on the income Glastonbury generates for them.........Glastonbury itself is very sensitive to the effects of ticket pricing.........

With regards touting.........it simply does not fit in with the spirit of the festival.........hence the time consuming, ellaborate, expensive registration system put in place to prevent it...........Now those who have tickets, but cant go, selling them on for a profit are doing so regardless of what the ticket is precived to represent.........I do believe there should be a system in which they are assisted by Glastonbury to be able to pass them on at face value, so they dont take a hit by not being able to go..........but that may be an expense too far for the festival??......Those selling tickets they won are questionable IMO.........why do you enter a comp if you know you cant go? And then to sell them at more then face value is an insult to the ethos of Glasto...........Even if they sold them for half price it would be questionable ethically, as they got them for nothing and are not being put out by not being able to go........they should just give them to people who want to go, can afford it and are not lucky enough to win tickets........

Personally, I have two major objections to touting (and to me, that includes selling a ticket on at a higher-than-face-value price, regardless of the intent when the ticket was purchased).

Firstly, I'm 35, and if I were to make a list of my ten best experiences _ever_, I'm willing to bet over half of them would involve gig-going; indeed, there have been times that it's been an almost religious experience. As far as I'm concerned, the promoter sets the price. Yes, it may be more than some poorer people can afford at any given point in time, but a price point has to be set. There are shows that I would not have been able to attend if I had to buy the ticket from a tout, and these are shows that have meant the world to me. I could never deny someone the opportunity to experience something that special because of my greed.

Secondly, I have a very strong suspicion that the eBay/internet touting is the reason that shows are now selling out faster than they have done in the past. The non-touts know that unless they want to pay effectively a tout/eBay tax, they have to get in fast - the whole thing perpetuates itself, and it drives me nuts. There have been times when I've been away for a few days, come back to realise that shows have been announce, gone on sale and sold out...

I have come to realise that if you're really in need, you can normally find a ticket from someone with some decency. I'm not enough of a hippy to truly believe what goes around comes around, but I have my suspicions :)

There have been times when I've been holding spares for really sought-after shows, but I could never consider selling them for above face value.

I'm not sure about this. The years where the people that I think you are talking about have been there are past I reckon. It was all very trendy 2005/2007ish. Last year it was out of favour, and did not sell out (maybe last minute, debatable). If your theory about touting encouraging rich people was right then all the rich knobs would go to reading and V, and although I've not been for years get the impression that actually its mostly a younger crowd at these now, presumably with less money your average glastonbury punter.

Anyway, it's not mass touting, someones been lucky enough to win a prize, and would rather have a cash alternative. It's not like the tickets went in minutes to touts this year depriving anyone of an oppurtunity.

I went when I was poor, I'm now relatively rich, always bought a ticket, once of a tout. Knob? Russy reckons tw@t. Got away lightly I reckon.

Are you allowed to sell glastonbury tickets on scarlet mist?

I totally agree with everything glastonbury have done to stop touting, but it does make it a bit difficult when you just want to get tickets off your hands, not rip anyone off! i wish they'd still let you do refunds! (bought one for my boyfriend who is now very messily an ex boyfriend, not really feeling like paying for him to go and have no money for rent.... bad times ;) )
