Anywhere to charge camera?

My new camera has an internal battery and needs to be charged via mains, it the first time Ive brought one that does not work on AAs and wondering is there stalls available? Or do them solar powered chargers work on Lithium batteries you charge by plugging into a separate charger connected to mains via AC lead. Or even third do charged spare batteries keep charged over long periods of time of no use?

Thanks for any help

Here is my experience... similar to you my camera uses a Lithium Ion battery that charges inside the camera. The camera is obviously supplied with the branded battery.

Bought a few spare batteries off Ebay a few years ago - benchmarked them and the results were that they worked for longer than the original branded battery and just seemed better all round!

Never had one explode or leak and they are still working fine after a few years.

I would say to get the cheap generic ones off ebay but would not risk charging them in your camera as 1)your not supposed to and 2)if it does explode then you have wrecked your camera too.

You can normally get an Ebay deal with 2 batteries and a charger. Go for that.

As a first time charge, put a transparent glass bowl on top just to be safe. But if all charges fine and worked great then you know you got a good deal. 'Sup to you of course - but better to be cautious then to wreck your new camera.

Hope that helps. ;-)

I've always bought clone batteries, but last year, I bought two NB-5L clone batteries for my camera. Charged them up. Got to Glasto, within 30secs of use they were flat and the camera shutdown! Twice had to walk back to camp to change batteries. Ended up back with what was left in the original Canon one. Completely useless the clones were.

I threw them away and bought a proper Canon one, which lasts for ages. Photos are important to me, so I don't mind spending the extra.
