Main stage atmosphere

Is it dead at the main stage, in terms of people watching music? when i went a few years ago, there was a definite lack of enthusiasm for the actual music, and more people in their chairs clapping along e.t.c. I danced as per, but i do generally think other festival main stages have better atmos...

I didn't see much on the Pyramid last year, but I thought the atmosphere was quite lame for Goldfrapp, which rather ruined what was going to be the highlight of my festival. Although I don't think they were helped by being sandwiched between Neil Diamond and Leonard Cohen, or by starting with a lot of their quieter songs.

I was gutted I missed Raconteurs last year, but then when I saw the crowd on the BBC footage, I didn't feel half as bad. The idea of standing in a field of disinterested people who have the odd half hearted clap along while a band I love are playing really doesn't appeal.

At the top of the hill its just rows of people sat in camping chairs watching the big screens, so no atmosphere at all.

But down the front its usually pretty good, particularly between bands when people are singing along with the PA music, or messing around with the "crap on a stick". And some of the singalongs with the bands at the Pyramid are amazing.

Can't see the atmosphere being that great for Neil Young this year, but should be good for Kasabian, Blur & Springsteen.

Yes there are a lot of people sitting in chairs who may not be jumping up and down singing, but thats not much different to most stadium gigs with a 70-80,000 capacity is it??

The atmosphere is always going to be generated by the majority who are standing and more so the ones at the front who are there specifically for that band. Doesn't mean the people sitting aren't enjoying it, just in a different way.

And yes I am appreciating this now I'm getting older!!

i think the atmosphere isn't that good in the day at the big stages really, but at night when people are really excited abotu a headliner it really does lift.

i remember being so surprised the first time i went in 07 about how easy it was to get to the front! it's good for me on that front but would prefer more dancing/jumping etc.

i'll do it anyway but yeah feel stupid sometimes if everyones standing still next to you!

it depends on the band obviously and the time of day

crowded house, sea sick steve, jon butler type relaxed sitting in the sun atmosphere

if you get inside the barrier for a band you like then you dont care what people on the hill are doing

i was suprised how easy it is to get in there between bands
