Why are we having a stream of threads about bands people like?

Oh I love this band, they'd be great at Glastonbury

Yeah, well TS, they ain't playing.

Sorry, I don't mean to sound harsh because the line up has been announced, and there still seem to be threads going "This band would be great" - yes, they would, but it ain't happening, sorry.

I think it's completely reasonable to have a thread about acts we'd like to see at Glastonbury. I'm assuming that the majority of people attending, are doing so because of their love for music. I also would have thought that a love of music would be the most basic common ground between people on this forum and thus this thread seems rather well justified.

As the forum title states: "Chat - Experience the spirit of Glastonbury all year round, a place for general chat about the Festival." I reckon this thread fits rather squarely within it's remit. The vast majority of posters within this thread are all ardent Phoenix fans and what better a place to share their thoughts than a forum dedicated to one of the loveliest, friendliest live music festivals on the planet?

This is true, and I did admit I was being harsh.

But there seems to be a spate of threads just going "Random Band - wouldn't they be great at Glastonbury?". Given the line up for this year has been announced, I just find them a tad obtuse at this moment in time. At times it smacks of "Hey look at me, I like a cool band". I mean I could make hundreds of threads of bands I'd think would be great at Glasto, but to what end would it be worth it?

personally, im a bit too old for trying to look cool. i just like the band, and always have done. i would be happy if they were on, but they're not. it's no biggie, just chatting with like minds. that is the end to which it is worth it.

if you don't like a thread, don't read it. or do read it and have a moan like you did, but then don't see your arse when people pull you up on it.

Hell it's not like I was suggesting Gary Glitter should headline the Pyramid on Saturday? If anyone has any suggestions of bands that may be worth looking up I'm always eager to listen to stuff I may have missed. That includes you robith...

Out of interest I'm assuming people involved with bookings for Glastonbury occasionally read these, and other similar forums to gauge public opinion, so how else am I meant to get Phoenix booked? I'm predicting Glasto 2010 - Phoenix headline the other stage Saturday while Glitter does the Pyramid, what a dilemma that would be.

How can I know if I like a thread or not unless I read it?

Also, I'm not allowed to express an opinion?

Or if I do express an opinion, I should not "see my arse"? I'm really sorry, you're going to have to clarify that point - I don't follow that I shouldn't look at my derrier if people disagree with me

i didn't mention anything about being allowed to express an opinion!

what i mean is this (and im using myself as an example here cos it's what i know best); there are many threads on efestivals that i don't see the point of, such as the 'who will be the special guests' for instance. now rather than me chip in that i think the threads are pointless (and forgive me if i'm wrong but that is the impression i got from your posts. happily corrected if needs be), i decide to leave those threads for those that are enjoying them. and if i did post saying it was pointless, then getting a bit of an argument back wouldn't be the most unexpected thing to see.

but more to the point, what's it got to do with me what other people want to post?

the 'see your arse' comment, well i offer my apologies if my northern slang is unfamilliar. i use 'see your arse' in the way one would maybe say 'don't spit your dummy out'.

hope this helps.

I never suggested you were.

And no, I don't think they do. If they gauged public opinion from this forum, they wouldn't have asked Jay Z to headline. Or Neil Young this year for that matter.

How can you get them booked? You can't. I can think of hundreds of amazing bands I think would storm Glastonbury, but sadly the bookers move in mysterious ways. Accept, and move on. You'll be happier for it, trust.

The above, as with many of my posts was written purely in jest and with a light heart. It is a bloody shame general consensus isn't noted by bookers as they could replace some of the truly awful acts with slightly more left field yet popular suggestions that would unite Glasto goers rather than divide them a la Jay-z, Lady Gaga etc. Although I have to admit I did enjoy Jay-Z for a while last year, first 30 minutes was good then it tailed off.
