Monkismo
So he's basing it on the fact that it regularly rains at the end of June? If thats the case he probably predicted a monson last year as well! It's hardly news anyway. Metcheck has said that we tend to have rain at the end of June for as long as I've been checking it. I really do believe that the standard seasons have shifted though. Summery weather can last til as late as October now and we had snow in April which is when it should be Spring. Could it just be that the traditional April showers have just shifted on by 2 months?
lovestospoon
If it's annual, why didn't it happen last year?
Rhyscot
This is what it says on BBC Weather : As we head towards July, early indications show that high pressure will remain across southern parts with the highest temperatures to be found in south-east England. Northern parts of the UK will probably see more wet weather. However, there are expected to be some clear spells, which could mean that night-time temperatures in the north-west fall below the seasonal average. meatyparson
Yawn - some useless hack trying to be sensationalist ! If it was such a yearly certainty why only the odd Glasto gets totally washed out by this annual monsoon in june ? Utter bollox !

Rhyscot
This is what the Met Office say ( up to 2 day before the festival ) : UK Outlook for Saturday 13 Jun 2009 to Monday 22 Jun 2009: Generally cloudy in western areas with outbreaks of rain, these locally heavy. Eastern areas will be drier and brighter, although with some rain or showers perhaps extending to eastern areas later on Sunday. Temperatures generally near normal, but perhaps locally warm or very warm in the southeast. Through the following week it is looking as though the east and southeast will be drier and brighter with temperatures warm or very warm, but cloudier in the northwest with outbreaks of occasionally heavy rain and temperatures nearer to normal. For the following weekend and start of the next week there is some uncertainty, but with the likelihood of drier warm weather in the southeast and cloudier conditions, with some rain and cooler temperatures in the north and west. Mr Ploppy
ha ha ha, Dr Craig Wallace is - and I quote... 'Ocean Observing and Climate Staff' 'Observing the bl00dy obvious more like'! sifi
I've been in a monsoon. The rain comes down but because it's so warm, it evaporates almost immedaiately and then comes down again. You can literally wash your hair in the damn stuff, it's like standing in a shower. What we get at Glasto is not a monsoon.
grumpyhack
The BBC/Met Office weather forecast website also says: Monthly forecasting - Forecasting the weather beyond about a week ahead stretches even the most experienced weather forecaster. I might as well check the piece of old seaweed hanging in the shed.
