the view......

now i don't mind the view but i have been a little surprised by the level of hate for them.

it was a similar thing on the t in the park forum too when pretty much every post was massively negative. i know not everyone likes the same music but they are a band that seems to attract much more abuse than similar size/talent indie bands.

is this due to nme bigging them up to be the next big thing?

just curious on peoples views on this.

Awful. Just awful. Almost at a Metro Station/Elliot Minor level of awfulness. Not a good band by any stretch of the imagination. If given the oppertunity I would gladly set them on fire.

I like The View, I'll probably go see them but I have to say they were no way big enough to headline the NME stage in 07.

I completely agree.... Assuming the respectability of the bands I mentioned is Zero, The View are definately 1000000 times more respectable...

They are utter gash who exist solely as another means for record execs to cash in on the indie fad. You're just daft enough to think they're genuine.

that is what i meant....

i feel that the view get treated more harshly as the nme propelled them at the start of their careers.

a lot of people hate the nme and i think this is why the view are slagged off more so than similar bands.

i think they supported the libertines and are in the same genre but i think they are a fair bit different.

i know bands get compared to other bands all the time and i do it myself if im trying to describe a band to a friend but it is such a strange thing to do.

on a seperate note the beatles/oasis comparison always does my head in. it is lazy journalism!

I'm just going to be honest and say I've never heard of them. I don't ever read NME so I wouldn't know which bands they like/dislike. Not that I would be bothered, my favourite band (Green Day) are completely over-hyped by everyone but I still love them

I can see why they were classed within a similar category with kooks and fratellis in the first instance with a similar sound but with trying to have the same production as the libertines but I've been really impressed with the second album and the change in direction. Yeah 5 rebeccas and maybe shock horror can be classed as similar to the first and thats why they were released as singles to try and attract the same audience again but it is mainly different. theres some great tracks on it, Covers is a fantastic track which I was suprised at when i heard it had paolo nutini in it as well as is gem of a bird which is one of the best ive heard this year and quite a few of the tracks have even got strings and a brass section in them. I dont even think the nme have supported them at all with this latest album so wouldnt put them in the same bracket.

I will be watchin them, only band i will be watchin with this announcement but not sure they'll be any good on the main. Saw em at cockpit a bit back and they were good but seen clips with em with a bigger audience and dont think it suits them

i haven't heard anything of the new album except 5 rebeccas, you never hear anything of the view anymore.

goes to show how powerful nme and radio 1 are!

The new album hasn't been a success by any means. And they were struggling to sell out many of the club sized venues they were playing at the end of 2008.

Yeah but I bet they get a bigger crowd than Brand New - Their new album did alright, if nowhere near the success of the first album. I would have predicted them 4th, esspecialy when you consider that a band of simular size played third last year in the Fratelis.
