As a smoker I've always tried to be considerate.

If people are eating nearby, I'll either not light up or move. Same as if there's a child nearby.

Also, I'll attempt to keep the smoke from blowing into the faces of people nearby.

So, if it's not the done thing to smoke in a tent, I won't. There's plenty of space elsewhere on the site!

Bit off topic this guys but as a none smoker can someone explane to me why so many (not all I know) smokers seem to think that fag butts dont count as litter? have seen areas even around bins covered in butts. Even if there isnt a bin isnt it still you rubbish and your responsibility?

Personaly Im not too bothered by cigarette smoke (so long as it isnt really in my face) but seeing streets corners, doorways and even beauty spots littered in this way by people who I can only beleive wouldn't throw aother rubbish ( I say this because fag butts are often the only litter items in these smoking areas) is something that really bugs me.

Is it just me?

I tend to smoke in tents... Only ever been caught once. Just be discrete and respectful of anybody that doesn;t want you to smoke near them

How hard is it to step outside the tent to light up & if the tent is packed, you shouldn't be smoking that close to people anyway?

I don't smoke near kids or people eating, if somebody has a problem with it then I will move away from them.

Maybe i'll start complaining at the people who think it's OK to barge through, elbow you in the ribs and push past, even when they could jsut walk round you and see how far I get.

Is it really going to hurt people to put up with the occasional bit of smoke in a huge area over the period of 3 days?

Not that I particularly want to side with Travelling Mr Pastry, who to be honest sounds like a very angry young person with little or no ability to engage in a balanced discussion, but........

The whole idea that the smoking ban is in place to protect people's health is in my opinion absolute rubbish. Before it was brought in the government commissioned some health body to investigate the effects of passive smoking in enclosed public spaces (basically pubs). Obviously they assumed the report would back up their vote winning ban.

Unfortunately for them, the report's findings were essentially that you would have to spend a huge amount of time in a very poorly ventilated pub before you were at even the slightest risk. To the point where you would probably have all kinds of other alcohol related issues much sooner. Just like the report commissioned before the reclassification of cannabis, the results were brushed under the carpet because they didnt fit in with the governments premade decision.

Yes lung disease from passive smoking is very real, but it was the reports findings that this was more an issue at home and for young children with developing lungs than it was in a pub.

Now dont get me wrong, I'm not actually a smoker and find pubs a much nicer place to be now. It's just that the whole health slant on the smoking ban just really pi55es me off.
