Smoking ban

Now dont get me wrong, I'm not actually a smoker and find pubs a much nicer place to be now. It's just that the whole health slant on the smoking ban just really pi55es me off.

I am 100% certain, that if i went in mind to smoke and set fire to a tent, i still couldnt do it. It's incredibly difficult to start a fire with a ciggerette in an open space - and tents are an open space.

The smoking ban causes a greater health risk than it solves. By forcing smokers to either stand outside in the cold - often old people and often those most at risk from the cold - or from forcing smoker to smoke in the home, around children. Passive smoking in most pubs isnt a risk due to the high ceilings and the same definitely goes for tents.

I think the best reason for the smoking ban was to protect those people who worked in a pub. People shouldn't be put at risk of illness because of their work - especially low paid bar staff.

Damn I did mean to mention that in my post. The report did recommend a significant no smoking area around the bar. Totally agree that workers shouldnt be put at risk.

Which had already been in place for a number of years at most pubs around the country.

Over here, most bars, pubs, and clubs have smoking areas. Usually nowhere near the bar.

Its crap, I smoke on and off and it really doesn't bother me whether other people do and how close they are to me. Its an unworkable law which has been forced upon the social scene of this country and also upon the people that enforce it. Ridiculous and poorly thought out by a a stupid vote begging government.

Edit to add, I know this because I'm clearing out closed down pubs on a regular basis, maybe partly because of the expense of alcohol but mainly because of the smoking ban, thats what the unemployed landlords tell me over and over again. Either way its the governments fault.

No one seems to have realised...

Drinking with a sober friend is safer than drinking alone. So why the government is trying to stop people going to pubs is beyond me.
