I'm currently massively paying the price of going out till 2am on a school night. But it's got me thinking about the lack of hangovers I seem to suffer at Glasto, or any other festival. Why do you think this is? The fresh air? The Growlers? The excitement of the day ahead? The fact it's ok to partake in a beer (or your substance of choice) as soon as you wake up?

Whatever it is I wish I had some now...........

i think its the excitement! hangovers with me are often a state of mind, if i have nothing to do and im lolling around the house i feel shit and feel sorry for myself. But at glastonbury there just isnt time for a hangover theres too much to do so it gets forgotten :O

Personally I think it's coz the drinking at Glasto is over a long period of time, so more gradual, whereas on a night out you're drinking faster in a shorter period of time.

And that your honour, is the case for the defence!!

There is a theory that a lot of hangovers are from badly washed glasses in pubs so that could be it. I reckon also people eat more frequently when drinking in Glastonbury which helps and also being out in the fresh air is a big one too.

i've always wondered this too..i. think maybe because i tend to drink all day (from around 11am) and then begin to slow it right down at about 9pm...so i go to bed around 4am after only having about 3 pints between 9pm - 4am and i feel fine the next day.

in 'normal life' i'd usually down about 9 pints between 7pm - 2am and not be able to get up in the morning :-( my little 4'11 frame can't handle it :O

... could be wrong, but my understanding is that it's not actually the alcohol that makes you feel bad - it's meatabolites of the alcohol (eg. when you drink you don't feel bad, you feel good - it's only when the alcohol later starts to be metabolised that you feel hungover).

It is an irony of sorts though that alcohol itself actually slows down that metabolisation - it still occurs, though more gradually and slowly and so you do not experience an acute wave of nasty metabolites ('hangover').

People tend to drink more (consistently) at festivals... the ever present alcohol levels tend to prevent metabolite levels spiking.....

Revel in the aforementioned irony and drink my friends, drink......
