Chris Martin?

If the Coldplay rumours are to be believed, here's a few things Martin has said re: Bruce

Martin recently said hearing Bruce Springsteen made him feel like his band were "s--t''.

How did you decide which particular recordings to use?

Well, we have our sound man Dan who is very patient and has obviously had to suffer more Coldplay concerts than anybody else in history. He picked the ones he thought were best, with Phil. In fact, our method came from reading about Bruce Springsteen's live record, Live/1975-85. His manager, John Landau, picked some of his favourite performances and then went through them with Bruce. We did a similar thing. Now, let's talk about Bruce Springsteen.

OK.

Actually, I'd like to talk about things that I think are brilliant at the moment and I've got three of them. One is Bruce Springsteen in general, but particularly Nebraska and Born in the USA. And I saw his show twice a couple of weeks ago and it's f****** amazing.

A lot of younger folks don't really understand the whole Bruce thing.

No, I didn't understand it either. I was like, "Why is Bruce Springsteen playing Glastonbury?" And then I went to see him and I was like, "God, they've done it again". Glastonbury are way ahead of everybody. You just feel amazing after one of his concerts.

If you think this founded on nothing more than that. Take into account that at Bruce's first ever European festival appearence at pinkpop he brought on the Killers frontman for a track. In the past, Bono and Michael Stipe have sung on stage, and Chris Martin has sung with REM.

Chances?

If the rumour is true about him requesting Kasabian to play in the guest slot, is Serge a possibility?

what rumour? It wasn't Bruce that has Kasabian in that slot.

They're in that slot cos the planned act for that slot - "the 4th headliner" - couldn't do it, so they had to find another act, one suitable to fill that slot. Step forwards Kasabian, the major act at the festival (Great Escape) run by senior Glastonbury booker Martin Elbourne.

lol last year there were rumours about Chris Martin getting on stage with Jay Z, it won't happen m8.

actually, I know that was originally what was being planned. But as things panned out, Chris had to be in the USA that weekend so couldn't do it - this was all clear quite a while before the fest.

The frustrating thing for me is the whole "No, I didn't understand it either. I was like, "Why is Bruce Springsteen playing Glastonbury?" And then I went to see him and I was like, "God, they've done it again". Glastonbury are way ahead of everybody. You just feel amazing after one of his concerts."

Now obviously the words of Chris Martin aren't going to convince me, but I've seen so many interviews etc where people have said how good he is. I've watched loads of videos of him and he honestly doesn't seem like anything special...is he really THAT good live?

Neil Young has been on stage before with Bruce (on youtube playing All Along The Watch Tower), not possible on Sat because NY in Hyde park but it would be great if BS showed his face on Friday with NY.

(Is it not weired to think what BS would be doing Friday evening, surely he must be in the area, where would he stay, would he be on site in motor home or in a hotel watching Glasto on the Telly. Or does he just helicopter in somewhere close just before the show.)

Just a dream, but NY + BS on Friday would be special moment.

what on earth are you talking about???

"who the fook are they???" is what Bruce and the rest of the E Street Band were/still are thinking when they got the word of who was coming on before them. Spinal Tap would be more likely to be invited to join them than anyone from Kasabian.

It's probably not inconcievable that Springsteen knows who Kasabian are but I would guess it's not really that likely - then again I don't know how big they are in the US.

Chris Martin appearing on stage with him seems like it would be quite likely really, but again does the Boss like Coldplay (he must have heard of them surely).

Liked the idea about where Springsteen stays, can just imagine him sitting in a travel lodge in Somerset watching The Bill.

i stand corrected...yer probably right. i forgot how massive they were outside england.

when they played Larry's Lounge in New Jersey last year, I recall a report that Bruce was there. He was one of the 350 in the crowd ... close to a sellout...

That was in New Jersey, relatively sophisticated music-wise, esp with its proximity to New York City.

I'd have to check the figures to see how many Kasabian pulled in when they played Bubba's Lounge in Dallas...
