Property Lock-Ups

I'm considering taking a DSLR. It would be with me during the day and I'd probably use the lock-ups at night because I'll be worse for wear or unconsious in my tent.

How safe are the property lock-ups and are they insured if something went missing?

Do they ever get full and is there ever any big queues?

Thanks in advance.

I lock ups are very safe indeed - I've never heard of anyone ever saying they've lost anything from there - but I don't think they're insured. They run by volunteers and they only ask for donations to raise money, so I I don't think they could cover insurance. Nobody but the volunteers get access to the lock ups.

The lockups are excellent, and very safe. Your camera should be covered for loss on your household insurance - or buy a travel insurance policy for a few quid if you're unsure. Needless to say your property would not be covered by either type of insurance if you left it in your tent...

Only words of warning is sometimes they do get full so the best advice is to get the item put into the lock up early...maybe in an extra rucksack so that you can take the camera from the rucksack...but get the rucksack put BACK on the shelf so t hat when you return to put the camera away safely, it already has its place on the shelf reserved.

Every time you visit, all you have to do it write out a new tag for the bag.

The lock ups are NOT lockers though. They are epicly huge long white tents with lots of strong shelving made from wooden boards and scaff poles! All bags and equipment are labelled by yourself with your address and contact details, numbered and named. You receive your part of the ticket and the label gos on the bag. Your bag returns to the same spot it was first placed if you choose to do the picking things up but returning it lark.

BUT...saying all this I havent used the lockup facilities for a couple of years and cant be super certain this service is still available...cant see why not though.

They are staffed by young volunteers who if you go and visit early morning/v late at nigh they are all very bleary eyed and pretty delirious from a long night sat in the tent! They appreciate a decent chat...but not drunken/mashed rambling and any pressies in the form of food or warm liquids often is gratefully received!

DO NOT FORGET YOUR NAME OR ADDRESS WHEN IT COMES TO COLLECTING YOUR SHIT ON MONDAY MORNING!!! There is security in the sense of you must be able to supply this to claim your bag back...I know of certain Efesters that have had very long waits whilst coming down trying to remember who they are, let alone where they come from! ;)

Hope all this helps.

Again...this may have changed but I find that highly unlikely too.

Hi Guys

The lockups have never turned away stuff due to capacity they can get busy but not usually if the weather is good. There are now 2 at pedestrian gate A so double the capacity since 2007.

We have never lost anything in 17 years and want to keep it that way so procedures are pretty tight
