Is a week-long Glastonbury festival a possibiltiy for the future?

Do you think the festival will ever become a week-long event and would you go?

The Monday & Tuesday would be more camping-based and run with a small amount of entertainment, building up on the Wednesday (a bit like the current Thursday plan) and then the main event Thu/Fri/Sat/Sun.

Obviously this would never happen in the next few years, but as more and more festivals compete in a tough marketplace surely it'd be a great advantage for Glastonbury to offer completely unique 7 day break in paradise.

Other advantages would be increasing the revenue from stalls/sponsors. All of the 'work' areas can still be fenced off like they currently are on Wed/Thu.

I think a lot of people would take them up on the offer too, even if it meant paying a premium. Afterall, how many times on this forum have you read the words "its my summer holiday"?!

P.S, if this gets enough of a good response as i think it will then how about we put it to the powers that be once 2009 is out of the way?

It'd be good to have an "after party" day... just kind of a wind down time. All music's stopped on the main stages, but smaller areas are still going (like the ID spiral lounge in the dance area and other tea tents.). It would give everybody a chance to sit down, chat , relas and say good bye.

Well, Boom festival is a week long, plus they have a three or four day "after Boom" in a different, quiet location "to help ease back to reality" - but the one big advantage to this festival is the guaranteed weather. Hot hot hot for a week, and lake to swim in.

Glasto for a week sounds great, I like the idea of getting immersed properly - but there's the rain. If it rains and is muddy for a week, peoplea are gonna see it as endurance not fun.

So shift Glasto further south and yes, definitely!

It does seem a simple thing, but the logistics behind the staffing manpower would be horrendous.

Also would it be possible to get all of the traders on site by Sunday night or earlier, and many may be resistant to the idea, as many come from other festival events prior to that. Then you have the issues with the public transport infrastructure. We are not even talking about the increase in the ticket money, yet alone the disruption that will be caused for the local community. From my limited experience when a festival has opened a day beofre the entertainment starts people do become a little disgruntled that there isn't much to do, and thats for a night, never mind 2 or 3 nights.

Also it may affect the numbers of volunteers, especially from many of the local groups. How many more stewards would be needed???

All that is just off the top of my head.
