Met anyone who hasn't heard of Glastonbury?

I just had to bring this up, well, because I couldn't get over it. I work with this Indian guy who has lived in England 13 years. He asked me why I was off work next week and why I kept talking about being so drunk etc etc and I said I was going to Glasonbury. His reply;

"Why are you going to France?"

Much to my bewilderment he was serious. I obviously told him we would never talk again then shouted racial abuse at him

Has anyone else EVER met anyone else in Great Britain who has no clue what Glastonbury Festival is?!?!

Most people of a certain age or who don't do festivals at all just know it as being full of mud etc.

I think its got that stigma attached to it unfortunately...that said, it was muddy the first 3 times i went and last year still had a day and a half of mud too!

Well most people have only heard Born in the USA by Springsteen and assume all his songs are like that or they think Young is a bit cheesy and not the legend that he is.

MIne is mostly a mix of - "Oh my god i am sooooo jealous" or "5 days in a tent uh no" or even "why do you need gaffer tape, wet wipes and pro plus?"

The first I ever heard of Glastonbury was on that washing detergent ad in the 90's. You know the one I mean? With the cute floppy-haired 90's indie-boy and his muddy clothes, come home to get his mother to wash them for him.

"Glastonbury... and you would have loved it."

I was living in Ireland at the time and stayed mostly in my own little world, so things rarely reached my ears. But it definitely piqued my curiosity more about the festival than the detergent!
