Best parking for the Pennards

Ok, it is my first time to glastonbury and i have studied the map and ideally we would like to try out the Pennards area.

I am coming down from the Midlands so will be coming down the M5 and then coming off at junction 23.

I am presuming that this route will lead me to the West car park but what i am trying to figure out is which colour route i need to take in order for easier access to Pennards. Im presuming i need to park in South West area??? Somebody told me that once i have parked i am best entering on foot via gate D to get to the Pennards and therefore will need to drive in on the Red route but from looking at the map, the Red route looks like its going in a different direction??? Can someone with a little more experience just clarify that the information i have been given is correct, for my own piece of mind.

I have read that you dont always get the choice which route you enter by. Would Pennards be easy enough to get to from any of the west car park areas???

I will be arriving around 9am on the Wednesday.

I have camped at Pennards for last 2 years, the closest Car Parks are definetly the West located ones,

any number from 1 - 20+ but the latter you will have no choice over depending on what time you arrive i think. I am useless with road numbers but i remember the best way to situate yourself for these is off M5, then on to the a369 then a39 or the other way around, then you pass through Glastonbury or nearby at one point on yourway.

This is my first time driving to the festival so glad this thread popped up.

So if I've got this right, the west car parks are the best for getting to Pennards as it's closer, but the East car parks are the best for leaving (as there are less queues)?

I thought you could come in via the gate C (with the hill of death) not gate B on the east side or have i missed something.

From West car parks to Pennards just depends what time you get there. Usually first there park closest but with the additional camping areas its around 10 minutes hike to the gates and then 20 minutes or so to the area where efesters normally camp.

Obviously how much kit your carrying and getting through the gate will add to this.

(It's not that far just a bloody git with all the gear)

Edit: If you arrive late Thursday then add about an hour on this because the furthest car parks are bloody miles away. I distinctly remember having to cross a road to reach a mates car a few years ago)

Other years I've been in E11 and gone through PGC; but last year was in some far-gone northern field beyond E1 or something and sent to the queue from hell @ PGB. I think that was down to some issue with PGC?

I'm hoping to be back in E11/PGC this year.

Does anyone know the best route to get to the west car park from London. All the instructions above are from the M5 but I don't really want to go all that way to come back again. I'm presuming if I follow the instructions from London on the Fine Guide (via A37) I'd end up in the east car park.

Depends how your intending to get to the area from London. If you go M3/A303 you end up at Podimore roundabout where the A37 goes off to Shepton Mallet. If you head along the A37 you will get directed into the east car parks. When I used to drive from that way, when I got to Podimore I instead took the A372 and then almost straight away the B3151. This takes you through Somerton and eventually to Street where you pick up the A361, tootle through Glasto town and on towards Pilton and get directed into the west car parks.

Good luck and enjoy the festie!
