Pay to get into part of Trash City?

Yeah - it was NYC Downlow. I refused to pay and didn't go in. I understand that it was for charity, but I think it's ridiculous that there's a part of the festival that demands payment.

Will they be ticketing the pyramid field next year?

I think the OP is refering to NYC Downlow in Trash City.

As I intend to go there as part of the Thursday night 'Gay/boogie' eFests group I would be interested to know the score too.

I have heard you have to buy a moustache to get in but I might be wrong.

...sits back and awaits replies ...

EDIT: Forgot to press send button so a bit behind other posters now :)

I think it was actually a £2 donation for a fake moustache, personally I didn't mind this as I was happy that it was going to charity, however i can understand the concern that it might set a trend for other places to do the same. Perhaps a voluntary contribution might have been better.

i didnt realise it was for charity - it was £2 for a fake moustache last year which then got you in the club. i only went in as the rest of my group wanted to have a butchers & i though what the hell! nothing special, i won't be bothering this year

Well I paid and went in last year, and it was fantastic, had loads and loads of fun dancing around like a fool to the trannies with my fake moustache on. It was for charity, it was a nightclub, I don't see the big deal of having to pay £2 myself.

I think you could probably refuse, but you were strongly encouraged to buy the taches on the way into NYC Lowdown. Pissed me off a bit really, I think it should have been done in an optional "and would you like a tache" way rather than practically being forced into it... against the spirit of Glasto that once you're in, everything is free etc. I won't be going back to Lowdown this year, why bother when Drag Strip next door is one of the best venues in Glasto?!

NYC Downlow is SO much fun. Yes you have to pay £2 for a fake 'tache the first time you go, but as long as you hang on to it you never have to pay again for entry the whole weekend. £2 for a four night club ain't so bad when you think about it.

i might be completely wrong but i think there could be another explanation for the 'entry fee'. as a 'travelling gay disco' the target audience is surely gay clientelle. considering that there are dozens of nighttime venues at glastonbury to choose from i think the nyc downlow are actually trying to make sure most of the punters in the gay disco are gay, otherwise its surely just a disco? and i think gay festival goers who wanted a night at the festival gaybar wouldnt mind paying, where as a group of lairy lads would probably move on after finding out about the entry fee. so i think it might be a deterrant to those who just want to go in and have a quick gawp or something. i remember last year that it was heaving with gayyyzzzzzzzz

but yeah, im sure you'll have your own opinions
