flagpole

anyone got any ideas what to use as a makeshift flagpole thats a) dirt cheap and easy to pack/carry?

There are lots of choices for what is basically just a long stick. Fishing poles, bamboo canes etc. but the basic rule is:

cheap / tall / strong -- pick any two

For our site flag I use a combination of an aluminium washing line pole, a telescopic fibreglass landing net pole, a length of thick wooden dowling, and a load of gaffer tape:

The exact combination of these components has been finely honed over several years and is a closely guarded secret

I'm gonna pop into Focus on the way home and pick up some bamboo poles I think. Haven't got a flag yet though, think tonight I might patch together some old underpants or something!!
