Beer cans in the freezer...

Right I need a definitive answer. If I put my beers in the freezer and leave them there till Wednesday morning are they going to explode?

Some will, some won't. I'd say in a slab of 24, maybe a couple will burst. Maybe some types of can are better than others.

just buy/ make some ice rather than risking it. From first hand experience i know they can leak and can blow if u leave them over night.

i started a thread on this the other day, and mine did not explode. they didn't expand either. absolutely no problems. some of the fizz has gone slightly but that's a small price to pay for a cool beer when you arrive.

why don't you try what i did, put one in the freezer first to test it out. if it works, bung the lot in.

I've left cans of cider in the freezer and forgotten about them but they've been fine.

I've left diet coke in the freezer by mistake - one exploded which made a right mess. The other one, once defrosted, was totally flat

i freeze 500ml bottles of water and pack them with the stuff i want kept cool

How long can you keep them in the freezer until they start to freeze?

it destroys them and when you open them, the relase of energy makes them freeze to your hand. which is really painful.

If you freeze bottles of water (a good idea) leave the tops off while they freeze as the water expands. When they have frozen you can put the tops back on.

Not worth risking it with beer cans. Even if they don't explode there may be a split in the can that you don't notice till they thaw at which point you'll have sticky beer over everything.

Done it loads of times. One out of every crate might leak a sort of lager Slush Puppie, the rest will be fine.

For the greater good of man, I carried out a little test yesterday to see if cans explode. I put 1 Fosters and 1 Olde English in the freezer and the fosters exploded! I'm afraid I can't work to a success rate of only 50% and it's with great sadness and based on those test results that I will not be attending the festival this year
