Wellies, Walking Boots or Walking Shoes?

Help... I have been trying to decide for the last week what to buy?

I wore wellies for most of my first Glasto (2004) and by the end of the festival I could hardly stand from sore feet. After this I switched to walking boats, these were better but I blister-tastic after 2005 & 2007 so I dumped them.

Now I am tempted to some nice gore-tex walking shoes and some gators… but if the mud gets deep (2007 style) they will most certainly perish.

Should I stick with Wellies and go for some thick socks? Risk another pair of walking boats or just hope the mud doesn’t get too deep and goes with the goretex shoes?

Help, I need to make the plunge this lunchtime and I am no closer to making a decision.

its a bit late to buy brand new footwear now and not expect to have blisters. were some of your old trainers or whatever and leave some wellies in the car or your tent, not that you are going to need them as it going to be a dry one!!!!!!!

ps these walking BOATs sound interesting where can i purchase these from ;)

I'd recommend light-weight walking boots. The ankle support is key, walking shoes just won't provide enough support.

Make sure you wear a thick pair of walking socks over a thinner pair of padded socks, this should reduce the blisters.

If you're thinking of buying new shoes now, don't bother. They need to be broken in before being worn for several hours a day, otherwise they can cause a lot of rubbing and blisters.

Walking boots. Expect to pay a few quid though. I bought mine before Glasto in 2007. Cost me a hundred quid, and honestly the best festival purchase I've ever made. (apart from the yearly purchase of a 2.5l bottle of lenor, but that's a different kettle of fish). They keep your feet dry, and make you feel all nice and smug inside when you see someone getting their welly sucked off them by the clay monsters that live in the mud.
