Glastonbury 2010

After seeing a fair bit of this year's coverage and having an inkling to attend for a few years now, next year is going to be my first year (ticket obtainance and mate's enthusiasm permitting. I may be up for this tent share with strangers idea). I've been thinking about potential headliners/acts:

Kylie (She canceled in 2005 and I'm sure it was promised she'd reschedule)

Oasis (Biggest rock band in the UK?)

The Feeling (Saw them supporting Bon Jovi. They deserve to be bigger)

Bon Jovi (For that matter, anything seems possible at Glasto)

Queen (Never played there, even in their Paul Rodgers incarnation would go down a storm I'm sure. Particularly if John Deacon returned)

Quo (To headline!)

Mention of Mark Knopfler got me thinking - How about Tina Turner for the Sunday afternoon gig? Her tour seems to have gone well this year, and she might be in the mood for something different.

I doubt Elton John would play anything other than the Saturday night headliner. I also suspect he would want a large chunk of the entire budget to turn up.

Kylie (She canceled in 2005 and I'm sure it was promised she'd reschedule) Possible - good shout, not that I'd watch her.

Oasis (Biggest rock band in the UK?) - Doubt it - they were shocking in 2004 and doubt Eavis will ask them back!

The Feeling (Saw them supporting Bon Jovi. They deserve to be bigger) - You are kidding, right?! :)

Bon Jovi (For that matter, anything seems possible at Glasto) - That would be funny!

Queen (Never played there, even in their Paul Rodgers incarnation would go down a storm I'm sure. Particularly if John Deacon returned) - Saw them in October, and it was exceptional, so would make an ideal headline. Unfortunately, Paul Rodgers split with them a few weeks back, so it won't happen.

Quo (To headline!) - Nah, they won't go from an early slot during the day to headliners. More of a 'novelty' band, sort of this year's Shakin Stevens, though infinitely better through what I've heard :P

From Michael Eavis himself:

Speaking about plans for next year, he said: "We've got one or two headliners that haven't played for a few years."

He is also talking to two major bands that have never played at the event, he said - but declined to name names.

"They're all on the phone at the moment so there is the chance of something different again.

"The bands that have never played before will be thinking they should come."

So - from the first sentence, we could guess Radiohead or Coldplay?

And for the 'two major bands that have never played', what about The Rollings Stones and U2? Mainly because they have to be mentioned on any rumours thread 12 months before the event. :)

I'm with the Wolf on this one. '09 Glasto was obviously the worst since the last one I couldn't get to. I saw there was rain on Friday. TBH i missed most of the coverage due to my little daughter being just 10 days old.

Managed to catch Blur on the tele last night and although they impressed me; i probably would have missed them had I been there this year.

But now I have removed my self-imposed posting ban from this forum as I am going to the next glasto. roll on 360 sleeps to go :)

As for the line-up? who cares! there will always be plenty to do see. Athough I would like to see the following

Dave Gilmore

Radiohead

Polyphonic Spree

The Frames

Tom McRae

Gomez

Gilmore will be there but on at the same time as some mega-band plays the Pyramid with NME "band of the moment" on the other stage. Then Gilmore could play Avalon in secret and only the real cool people would know. He would play a set of , Shine on (parts 1-9), Echoes, Dark side in full then encore with Comfortably Numb & Wish You Were Here :)

Personally I would like to see:

The Polyphonic Spree

The Flaming Lips

Arab Strap Reformation or at least Malcolm Middleton somewhere on the line up.

Pavement

Badly Drawn Boy again

The Fall (Jokes)

Erm Can't think of anything else.

For me though it's not really about the Line Up, it's about all the little random surprises that make you go "Cor, That's interesting" This year there were only like 5 bands I wanted to see each day, the rest of the time was spent wandering the site and enjoying the atmosphere and random goings on.

Cheers,

Except for a huge headliner in the ilk of Eric or the Stones, my ideal line up would consist entirely of acts I like playing at either the Acoustic, Jazzworld, Avalon or Park stages. Because I really don't like the Pyramid, Other or JP stages anywhere near as much.

You can keep your Kaiser Chiefs/Kasabian type dross on the big stages, I'll go and watch Seth Lakeman, The Bees, Show Of Hands or I Am Kloot at a stage that has a queue-free bar for real ale or real cider next to it.

Lovely stuff.
