this festival is awful

This is really fairly funny. Why do people feel the need to come onto a Reading board to say 'ohhhh Glastonbury is better' its just a ridiculous post. Weather or not one festival is actually better is immaterial. To the people busy posting on this board Reading is better than who or what ever other festival is suggested, thats why they chose to come to Reading and spend there time on this board.

The reasoning behind the fact that people are so insecure that they feel the need to specially post on one festivals sub forum that another festival is better than it is beyond me. Infact when we look at the realise that people who go to Reading don't feel the need to go over to Glastonbury boards and post up threads, or post in threads, suggesting that 'Glastonbury is shite' and people should 'come to Reading' maybe we realise that in at lest one respect the Reading crowd is more mature...

well we dont need to argue about this anymore because the offspring and less than jake (two bands whose members are 40 but try and dress/act like theyre 14) have said they love reading so it must be the best!

and to that guy who pointed out the main stage at glasto was 'crap' youre an idiot. how can blur, springsteen, neil young, crosby/stills/nash, the specials, and nick cave be crap?! im willing to bet theyre all rather large influences on a massive amount of the reading acts! plus youve chosen to base the glastonbury lineup on the main stage, when it has about 20 other stages!

and how is the reading main stage so much better? all the headliners have played glasto in recent years. and then the reading main stage has bloc party, yyy's, prodigy, maximo park, brand new, enter shikari the rakes....who all played glasto 09s SECOND stage.

in fact, the more you go down the two lineups you notice how the bands that play on the 2nd/3rd/4th biggest stages at glasto are a lot higher up on the reading bill. weird that innit?

erm ..... except year after year after year the Glasto boards do have Reading-ites invade to tell the Glastonbury goers that their choice of festival is shit. :(

But most amusingly, such comments also usually include (as this thread has too) "Glasto is too corporate" or something similarly laughable from people who clearly have a brain the size of a pea. :)

And that all just goes to prove that it's ultimately down to personal opinion and preference. End of story.

yep, the likings of bands is always that - some you like and some you dislike. If we all liked the same stuff they'd only be need for one festival.

It's quite reasonable for someone to claim a preference for a festival on it's line-up. It's far less reasonable to claim a preference for a festival on the basis of myth and wrong info, as have been the case in this thread with some of the comments - such as Reading having more "alternative" music or being less corporate.

erm............why dont the people who prefer reading go to reading and the people who prefer glastonbury go to glastonbury????

bands are also personal choice, theres no point telling radiohead and arctic monkeys fans that nick cave or neil young are better cos they dont care, they just want to see their personal favorites.

or,of course, you can go to both and let everyone else argue which one is better.ha ha.

the fact that such and such band are playing reading or glastonbury doesnt decide which festival is the better festival does it? this changes from year to year.

the best way to decide which is the better festival is pretty easy, isnt it?

take away the bands and see which is the better festival, hmmmm toughy that what dont you think? I think the answer will be again be pretty easy.

glastonbury, just a damn shame I wont be attending for a few years

Hey Guys,

I know I should be carefull posting here seeing as I have never been to Reading, but for me, Glastonbury is all about wandering around the circus feilds and seeing things that I wouldn't normally pay to see but really catch what the glastonbury spirit is all about. This year I found that I enjoyed going round the Circus feilds more than watching my favourite band play the main stage, I found that I had a good time at the pyramid and the band I was watching was good, but I wanted the band to end so I would have more time to explore. I bet that if you walked for one mile at glasto then you would see every aspect of performance art. At reading yes there is one comedy stage but that's it, the rest is just stages showing mainstream current in the scene acts. I could be wrong, but judging from others who have been to readings posts I'm not. I just like Glastonbury becuase it is unhurried and I don't have to worry about rushing from stage to stage so I can catch all the acts I want to see.

Cheers,

Blackhole2006

My perfect festival is one with the atmosphere of Glastonbury and a line-up similar to R/L's (albeit one unlike like this year's waste of money)...

Glastonbury is full of stuck up public school kids who think theyre cool and wear stupid glasses. No thanks. Also the people i know who go to Glasto know stuff all about music.

And Reading and Leeds aren't full of stuck up public school kids? Leeds last year was like a five-day-long episode of Skins.

No offence to disabled people, but you're a retard.

Maybe some of us don't like being around loudmouthed idiots. Yes, I know, it's a festival and that's what you get, and Glasto had one or two this year. But what sets Glasto apart from Leeds was how relaxed the campsites were. No morons running round trying to knock people's tents over. It felt so great being able to sit outside my tent on the Sunday night without watching over my shoulder in case some flying shrapnel heads my way (until the heavens opened, that is).

Also, you say "the carnage and destruction is what makes reading so f**king amazing!" then go on to say "angry mob and toilet destruction is too far" and imply that "trolley jousting" and "bollocks" are parrt of the carnage. I don't understand. Shouting "BOLLOCKS!" is hardly destructive behaviour and trolley jousting isn't exactly the most mental of things I've seen at a festival.

Also, your last sentence. I don't see what's wrong with someone in their middle-age having a good time at a festival.

hehehehe you are all funny buggers.....

I go to both because they mean different things to me.

Glasto for more relaxed

Reading for that corporate hit of madness.

The music is more diverse at glasto and the beer is shitter at Reading.

So in the end I get to have a 9 day holiday with Glastonbury, as it was this year, saw some great bands, and got very broken on a number of occasions, whilst this year (my last I fear  ) I will waddle round Reading listening to what I think is the best line-up of music since 94. I am going to have an epic time and sing my large moobs off.

So there you have it, Personal choice in practice.

Now all play along nicely... you know you want to!

Peace.
