Random Acts of Kindness

We all know that when you get 170,000 people into the space the size of a Fiat Uno you're bound to get some knobheads.

There's a few posts been made about the thievin, scummy, mashed, gazebospace fookers etc - so how about a thread to balance it all out.

Were you on the receiving end of a random act of kindness? Something that was completely unexpected but left you thinkin "WOW - cheers dude"?

My Glasto kicked off with a 70-odd mile detour cos the M4 was shut - so arrived later than expected and in car park E9 - with a longish trek to where we wanted to camp. C'est la vie - sh1te happens AND we have our sooperdooper, 4 wheel trolley that carries everything and that's served us for the last 3 Glasto's - so we load up and off we trek.

Just before the big drop down to Gate C, a fookin wheel drops of the trolley. Completely knackered and no chance of a repair! Bugger - I'm not so smug anymore! I have visions of 15 there and back treks and a heart attack to follow.

1st RAofK - the geezer who saw me n the missue strugglin to get down the hill with the 3 legged trolley -he grabbed one side of it and helped us manhandle 1/2 ton of kit (well, it felt like it) to gate C. He even offered to help us once we got inside - but I didn't want to take the p1zz, so I thanked him and he went off.

2nd RAofK - a marshall at gate C who saw us struggling to shift the trolley and got us in to the site with minimum fuss and helped shove the trolley to a safe place too. Top bloke.

3rd not so much random - more a god-send. I found a motorised tricycle taxi-bloke - it cost me dosh to load his flatbed with our kit (inc. my daughter!) but it was bloody worth it!

End result was we got to pitch where we needed - and after a cool beer or two was feeling pretty chilled after what could've been a disaster! So a big thanks to those who helped us.

The trolley's now gone to the big trolley-recycling yard in the sky - it served us well :(

So - what's you're tale of receiving (or giving) a random act of kindness?

i had a quite similar one to your's:

me and the missus, fully loaded, obviously struggling.

our of nowhere, a guy offers to pull the trolley as far as hes going down the railway, ends up walking straight past his tent, all the way to Arcadia. Then refused to accept beer or money or anything as payment.

What a great guy!

The best thing I saw was this. I was sat with some friends in the Greenfields, and one of them came had found a driving licence and a credit card wrapped in 300 quid. He then promptly dialled 118 and got the blokes home number, using the address. He then rang and was able to speak to the blokes mum, who at the same time then rang the lad. I was then dispatched to meet the lad, as it was his first festival and didn't know his way around, and then he was reunited with his wedge :(

Well done fella!

Stuck at bath and west on wednesday, baking in the sun for 3 1/2 hours and seemingly at least another 1-2 before getting on the bus, in a good vibe still with happy people in the queue, but knowing I was getting sunburnt...

A chap called Dale with an orange van came out on a passout to pick up his gf and took as many as he could from the queue in to the car parks, they forgot his gf's tent so came back and did it all again. I was really happy and this set me up REALLY well for a great week.

Thank you Dale, it's people like you that make this festival what it is.

Met a serious acid casualty in Dragons Field on Sunday night after the rain. We immediatly found a member of campsite crew and helped her down to the caravan.

We bumped into the crew member a bit later in Strummerville who informed us they had managed to reunite acid casualty with friends and she now knew who she was again!

She was lucky she was in Dragons and not SL though, dont think she would have got help in there.

Hello,

I was waiting to see Bruce on my own very near the front of the pyramid stage. I got chatting to two sisters in their late 30s early 40s, who were both lovely and worried about me being on my own at the festival!

After Crosby Stills and Nash had finished we waited for Kasabian (who i'm not a fan of but have no problem with!) and more and more people piled in.

I'm not a waif or weak at 25 years old, 5ft 9 and size 16, so it didn't bother me too much being rammed into and having my feet pissed on.. However as soon as Kasabian started I was thrown around, elbowed in the head and even punched by some pissed idiots.. i knew i had to get out or I wouldn't live to see Bruce!

I felt a hand grab my arm and the ladies were pulling me out with them. We made our way through the idiots some of whom shouted and screamed at us 'how can you leave Kasabian, f**king stupid bitches' etc.

We eventually got out and were elated! I went off back to my tent to get some money for a drink and said i might see them later. I didnt see them again but keep thinking that if it wasn't for them i would have been seriously hurt by inconsiderate fans pissed out of their minds, as i would have been too stubborn to leave!

Thank you to the ladies that helped me!

Otherwise I had an amazing festival, my first time at Glastonbury and on my own, but really had an ace time!

- After being on a shuttle bus for 5 hours i decided to get off and walk. After getting through Shepton Mallet a kind person (who was working at the festival). Decided to give me a lift up the hill to Pilton.

- Water stall let me off paying full amount because i looked like i was dying for water and didnt have the right money.

- Security in one of the bar tents came over to me because i had fell of my chair, i thought he was going to throw me out for being worse for wear. Instead he joked about paying me for the performance.

- Various people walking behind me gave me back items i had dropped.

I honestly found this one of the most friendly Glastonbury festivals i have ever attended.

At Castle Cary Station, about half 12, my group decided to get a taxi instead of a lift, but some angel who wasn't even going to the festival gave us a ride there for a tenner! That was £2 each so that was great.

I gave away a couple of beers for free before Blur (I had about 30 left and I didn't wanna waste them) so I was handing a few out for the sake of being friendly, some people demanded that they paid me for 2, I said nothing, but a fag would be nice, ended up with £2 and 3 fags, though I asked for nothing. I like people like that.

Lovely thread folks - keep them coming! Good to see such a positive thread amongst the many negatives.

Oh, and I went to the cash point on Friday night (not at Glasto, but as we're talking about it...) and the bloke who was there before me took his card but forgot to take his cash!! So I took it out, ran after him and gave it to him. He was very embarrassed and very thankful, and offered me £10 of his money. But I didn't couldn't take it.

Even though I wasn't at the festival, I tried to ensure the Glastonbury spirit was abundant outside the fence.

I was a giver outer of random acts of kindness this weekend. Trying (with no joy) to locate my friend's camp in Wicket Ground at 3 in the morning I came across a guy struggling to put his tent up so I offered him a hand. After a couple of minutes someone else came to help and we'd done it in no time. That was my good deed for the day and we then proceeded to share our supplies...

A big thanks to the guys who pulled up in their van at Bristol and demanded they give me a lift to the festival. Really good banter and I hope they all had a wicked weekend.

After being stuck in traffic for so long I decided to get out of said van and walk the last few miles. A guy in a campervan handed me a bottle of juice out of his window when he saw my rather sweaty self walking past with all my stuff. That was a lifesaver.

Oh and thanks to angelheaded hipster for the lift and keeping me entertained all the way to the airport on monday ;).

i know everyone struggled with the queues on the M5. we'd been in the car for about 6 hours, 3 of them in standstill gridlock when we got off the m5. we were then faced with the 20 mile crawl to the site when a bus driver pulled alongside us and opened his door. with his strongest somerset accent he leaned over to us and asked "ay, hows your driving?". "good" replied my mate. so he said to us "hey, you lads follow my bus route and you'll get there in 20 minutes". it took about 45 minutes but he got us past all the queuesto within about 15 minutes of the site.

i was dying in that car with 40kg of bags on top of me and 3 crates under my feet. i will never forgoet that man, from what i've heard he saved us at least another 6 hours.

After pitching and a wander on Wednesday went back to our camp and sat about chatting. At 1am two very tired upset looking women turned up looking for space in a packed field. They had left two young ones somewhere and one went to get them while the other pitched the tent.

I offered to help as the one pitching had no clue whatsoever about how to pitch the tent. After getting talking it turned out they had left home at 7am, spent 5 hours queuing to get in and been shifted round all the Family Camping fields until they eventually found ours. We got the tent up and I think they had a good Glasto.

I offered to help the couple with the nine month old who were in the same situation but they had everything under control and apart from a bit of shifting of guy ropes and torch holding didn't have to do anything.

After eventually arriving and trudging around the unnecessarily extended route from Ped Gate A, and then spotting , I couldn't lift my trolley over the guy ropes to get there and felt very defeated indeed.... so near, yet still out of reach...

And then, hey presto, a friendly man in fairy wings appeared and helped me carry my load weaving through the tents and over guy ropes! Thank you kind fairy! That was a disney moment!

On Weds at Bristol Station we narrowlly missed a bus to the site at about 1ish then we had to wait about 3 and still no bus arrived.

Then a lad about 18 called Joe came over and asked me and mate if we wanted a lift to the site as there was space in their car with him and his dad, Barry. We took them up on this offer and within about 2 hours or so arrived at the glastonbury site after we narvigate our way down the narrow windy back roads.

Me and mate offered Barry some cash which he refused & then we offered him a crate of lager which he also refused.

So I just want to say Hello to Barry & Joe you really helped us out the other day, hope you had a great festival!

Mike

bump - because there is too much negative stuff around.....

I have to say I thought the stage security were pretty cool with the water hand - outs. Scrobius Pip encouraged the crowd to go mental on his last number and then commented "The security are amazing - you go mad and instead of chucking you out they hand you water" - summed it up nicely.....

3rd not so much random - more a god-send. I found a motorised tricycle taxi-bloke - it cost me dosh to load his flatbed with our kit (inc. my daughter!) but it was bloody worth it!
