we've had blur vs oasis, pendulum vs prodigy........it was only a matter of time before we had beatles vs the stones!

with questions like this its like we're back in the 60s

two of my favourite and most listened to bands of all time, the stones are a great great band who produced some of the greatest songs of all time.. paint it black, jumping jack flash, gimme shelter, beast of burden, rocks off etc etc

but they are still around now, reliving former glories, and i admire them for it, but it doesn't add any credibility to their legacy.

the beatles were also far more consistent with their albums, releasing some of the most rocking tunes of their era and some of the most beautiful ballads of any era. they are the best and most innovative group of the 20th century and they get my vote (:

EDIT: forgot to mention that unlike the stones the beatles quit while they were ahead and left behind a perfect and highly influential streak of albums.

Got to be the Stones on longevity. I don't suppose many folk on here were alive when the Beatles last did a gig. Whereas Stones are still going and making new music 40 years down the line.
