oafc0000
Reading doesn't have Mendip Council to deal with and wasn't nearly shut down because of on-site overcrowding. Completely agree that in an ideal world we wouldn't have to have passouts because they're a pain for all concerned - all I'm doing is explaining why they're there and why they won't be going any time soon. oafc0000
The photos are there primarily to discourage ticket resales. Mendip are presumably not satisfied that the photos are sufficient to stop tickets / wristbands being smuggled back out to similar looking people. If you want to just control numbers, you could get away with the wristband / passout combo, but the reason they ask for the ticket as well is again to discourage resales. It's a complex and wieldly system, but the reason it's there is because: a ) People (such as those on this forum) complain bitterly about ticket resales and not being able to get tickets because of bedroom touts buying up the stock, and Glastonbury, unlike other festivals, have actually tried to do something about it. b ) Mendip complain bitterly about the festival's capacity, and the festival needs to be able to demonstrate that they are controlling it in an effective way. oafc0000
oh fair enough. there are loads of great acts that appear in the dance village and not all of them are strictly "dance" music. You should deifnitely give it a try another day.
Prest02000
No you need the ticket as well, or you should at least. Staff walk in and out.

Rufus Gwertigan
Erm, they don't. Anyone arriving on a worker ticket (traders, campsite stewards, majority of performers, stage crew, the people and stewards in greenfields / greenpeace / healing field / shangri-la etc) doesn't get one. They all need their ticket and passout to get back in. Only those crew who need to leave the site regularly (i.e. if camped offsite or if security) get one. eFestivals
Reading manages with wristbands only Reading has a big problem with wristbands being passed around, and is over capacity because of it. One day the shit will hit the fan for Reading fest because of it.

grumpyhack
Security have got to do their job but over-zealous and particularly inappropriate behaviour when searching should be reported. Write a formal letter of complaint to GFL. If you don't get a satisfactory reply threaten to write to the licensing authority. It's probably too late now to get the steward's number but you might recall the day and time so they can work out who was on duty. Redwinevino
I think I went in yellow gate but can't quite remember as there was some confusion, we were not searched at all and they couldn't of been nicer
eastonite
I was working with SLS this year, not searching, but was working near gate c closing the gate to stop people crossing the road whilst cars were driving down it, and to be honest, i though the behaviour of a lot of festival goers was ridiculous. When asked to wait for about 30 seconds to alow the cars,(including security trucks travelling at very high speeds, as well as ambulances ) people would push past having being asked politely to stay put, as well as insulting us and generally being aggresive and obnoxious. obviously the majority were happy to comply, but there was a definate proportion who were basically pretty horrible. As for the searching, surely it would be harder to get a license for the festival, if there isn't clear attempts to prevent drugs entering the site? For one shift i just had to stand near them directing people with wide loads down an easier path, and to be honest they were pretty good at their job, and could clearly recognize the tell tale signs of people in possesion, as about 1 in 3 of who they were searched were found with drugs. the vast majority were allowed in, and only saw 1 girl carted off.
