adamski
I'm thinking about a camper van myslef. I'm getting too old for this camping malarky. Can you pitch a tent next to your campervan? Don't think the wife would want to share a campervan with my smelly mates, so could just put them in a tent! Also can you hear anything of the main stage in the camper van field? That's been one of the bonuses of the family camping. I can put the kids to bed and sit listening to the headline act!

sinhala
Despite the fact that we arrived around 4pm Wednesday we ended up in E5 ffs ! I estimate the journey time from campervan to meeting point was around 30 minutes. There were no toilets in our field, nor the next one, and then just a row of around 10 in the next field after that. In 11 years of campervanning it, this was the single worst location/facilities we ever had.

Spacey
We were in e10 and it took about an hour to the entrance and an hour and a half getting back !! You also lose the spirit of the fest as its very quiet on a night, next year gonna take a tent aswell to set up as a base inside the fest. beamends
Our first stab at the campervan fields, here's my thoughts...... Arrived at the site by the main gate at 8.30 am Wednesday having camped overnight just down the road the other side of Street. Got on site at about 11.30, and then to E10 (no choice in where to go as far as I could see). Nice fence all round, with guards manning security towers 24hrs. No one actually checked if we entitled to be there, but then that would be difficult with guests etc but is a security hole (NOT complaining, just observing!). With some Germans next door I had to remember not to make reference to Stalag V ;-) Burger van in the corner of the field still open at 3.00am if not all night - nasty Maxpac coffee at £2.00 - didn't even bother with the food. Toilets - about a dozen but in pretty much the same state as the rest of the site. If you are new to campervans check out the toilet before you decide to use them for a dump - access is to say the least "difficult" in most vans/caravans if you are over 4ft tall! And someone has to empty it........ Water tap/Elson point near the bogs - water tasted wonderfully of blue plastic pipe! Or was that "our third-world water" experience? Bit of an eye-opener anyway..... No partying going an at all, the few people about seemed to stick to their own groups really, just chatting a bit amongst themselves. We were "out" all day, but it was very dull back at the van in the late evening/early morning. No torch required for going on/off the main site, but felt very isolated from the event. It took around 30mins each way going in and out. Didn't get searched, but the chance of it happening so often was a real downer at the start and end of the day. The hill of death wasn't that bad, and I'm no athlete, but if you were limited in any way the walk would be a killer. The view from the top is pretty good though! We wouldn't consider a van again, the going on and off site bit made it feel very much like going home at the end of each day, rather than just having bit of a kip and starting again if you see what I mean. On the plus side - it was safe to leave stuff in the van. And, er....... well. The rules say you can have one tent behind the van, and you can have one other vehicle as well, and you can have an awning but no one can sleep in the awning. jameshunt
I was there at 6 in the morning, one of the first in (when gates opened at and they put us in E10 - which is a bit of a hike!

Guest Flip
Have to say the campervan field being outside the festival is the reason we don't go anymore! Having to leave and then re-enter with possible searches etc just kills it..
jameshunt
I must admit, it seems to have gone down a little Didn't really mind the walk TBH, and we did have loads of space this year. One thing though, the water tasted rank up there. Really "chemically". It was not like that on the rest of the site.
souldancer
We're thinking of taking a campervan next year providing we get tickets but reading this lot its not painting a very pretty picture Dont like the thought of maybe gettng searched every time you go in. Sounds like its worth taking a tent inside aswell.
Celtic bhoy
Wow, lots of negatives here. Maybe I can give a different slant on it. We camped over just off the A37 where we dropped the dog in kennels. Got to the entrance about 9am and asked if we wanted family or regular. Asked what was closer and went towards the family camping area. Were in the middle of E17, set up and sitting back chilling by 10.30am. Walk into the site was about 10mins max down the hill. WE spent most of the day in the festival occasionally going back to restock, chill out and relax in the afternoons. Never got searched but was never bothered as when I took anything in it was well stashed or with friends who were already on site and camping. The toilets at the top of the hill were fine nearly everyday and we didnt bother with water cuz my wee T4 camper has a 50 lite water tank. My wife is 5 months pregnant and I enjoy a good nights sleep which i'm pretty much guaranteed in my van. The thought of her lugging all her stuff into the site and the stress of finding a good pitch was way too much for us to contemplate. We enjoyed just parking up and although having to tackle the hill it was way easier than the camping option. The family camping area was quiet as you'd expect but we were getting back at 2/3 and even 5 am one morning and were quite releved not to have folk bangin out the tunes in the car park or in the next tent. Yes, it does feel like your leaving the site every time you go back to the van, but most of the day/ night your in the festival and when your over 30 and partying for 5 days straight a little more comfort is well worth it. We'll be back next year, early arrivals, in the campervan fields and with our wee one for it's 2nd Glasto, as it's first was only as a passenger!
