miniand
Bear in mind that the campers generally open one way or another, so if you are back to back you might as well squeeze up against the next camper as you won't be using the space in between except for access. Don't get too close if possible, the fridge flue outlet nearly burst into flames on our caravan, the plastic cover is charred black and caravan sidewall was marked by residue. All the flies etc that get in during the winter had burned up. As the fridge is normally run on electric we just switched it to gas without thinking about it. I'm going to remember to service it a bit more.... We had a nob turn up in his brand new campervan who insisted on running his engine every morning and night for at least half a hour (tw*t) get a liesure battery ffs Edited July 7, 2009 by miniand

dakyras
I was there at 6 in the morning, one of the first in (when gates opened at and they put us in E10 - which is a bit of a hike!
dakyras
We went in a tent 2007......Caravan 2008........Took the caravan and tent this year.........Sorted us right out as we had a base camp during the day and a fab caravan to go back to if we decided to. There is no comparison to being in the festival camping as to being in the campervan fields. Being in E10 we had porta loo's security disposal for waste and a long walk down to gate C. We are thinking of chains on tyres for next year as having got stuck twice now 07 and 09 !! Although the people in the campervan fields are much more willing to give people a shove, possibly due to the fact they were stuck behind us tho... beamends
Ahhh! So - can you take a car and caravan into the campervan field? I thought it was just campervans (i.e. just the one parking space)......and can you put a tent next to it too?.........and if you did how big could it be? Ours is a 6-man tent - would that be too much? My "in-laws" have a small caravan and this may sort us out without the expense of the campervan hire. Although I'm not sure how the SO will feel about towing a caravan - he may decide that this makes him very old indeed!
souldancer
Now that's a good idea! We have always nipped back to the tent at some point in the day to top up the rum/vodka, grab a jumper etc as I hate carrying loads of stiff with me! That is something I'd miss in that field. The water was also undrinkable in Paines this year - clearly enough chemicals to make it safe but it tasted disgusting. We drunk it because we had to but it was a trial. That wasn't just the camper field. We are taking my mum for the first time next year and she will be 68 (I've always known she'll love it but have only just got unselfish enough to take her!). We realised this year that for us even at 45 & 47, camping is getting too much so it'll have to be a campervan I think - but I'm a bit dismayed by initial cost searches. How much have people paid to hire a van & when is the best time to book? Is it better to have one lined up before you even book tickets? Can anyone recommend a company? It doesn't have to be luxury! abu hamster
Turning up early on Wednesday means you could be in overflow or by the gate???????????????????? Took 30 minutes to walk back to the camper this year put me off risking it next year! Should be first come first served like the tents rather than the first come back of the sodding overflow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! amfy
Maybe a bit early but me and my friends are looking now. I typed in motorhome hire in my county and lots came up, I started looking last week and found some 6 beths for about £700 but going back to the sites this week they are now £850. I suppose they have them all back now and are starting to look towards next year hence the price going up already. I live in Devon and we've got a hire place in Exeter so my mates gonna book it tomorrow atleast its done and out of the way then. Just got an email back with a quote from another firm and they want £1050. Think its good to get in quick.

Sam Crawley
There is a certain length of space you can have for £65.00 and if it goes over you will be charged another £65.00 so make sure you do not go over the space you can have or believe me you can be charged on the spot and that is not something you want
oafc0000
7m, but they're not religious about it - the rule is designed to catch coaches and winnebago affairs, not campers that are 7.5m long etc..
typingjo
1. The water was fine, it's more chlorinated than usual tap water but if you don't like it, bring bottled. It was fine for us. The taste is not dissimilar to water out of a hose-pipe, if you can manage that without having a tantrum, you'll be fine with The water was foul and undrinkable even when boiled. Did bring bottled, 12 litres of it, and a 50 litre on-board tank, but obviously it was a mighty hot fest this year and ran out on Monday pm. I've been permanently motorhoming for over 3 years and have NEVER tasted water out of a hosepipe quite like the Glasto experience - except, I must admit, until yesterday, it's rank here too. As for tantrums, tantrums?

youngjods
Booked my motorhome today. Getting excited now already. Never motorhomed at Glasters before, any tips? And I hear plenty of water to bring from home?
Guest Flip
The way campervan dwellers seem to be treated at the entry gate (lots of searches and confiscations) means we will probably never go to Glastonbury again... Unless they bring the campervan field inside the perimeter fence theres no point...long queues and then long searches don't sound like fun to me...and the fact that you have to keep your ticket with you and show it along with your wristband is just added stress, especially if its a wet festival..mine ended up a small piece of mush by the end of 2007.. grumpyhack
Tis difficult. But, for what it's worth.... A fellow member of our Glasto group of four and I have just invested in a trailer tent. It was in excellent condition and cost us £1,050 second hand. On top it's cost me about £150 to have a towbar and twin electrics fitted to my car (for the un-initiated one set of electrics works the brake lights and indicators etc on the back of the trailer and the second set of electrics charges the leisure battery). That puts in perspective hiring a motorhome for just a week for £700 or so. So we now own a trailer tent that we can use for Glasto, other festivals and weekends away. I've not tried a motorhome but did borrow a VW camper from a friend for another festival last year and decided it was a waste of time as a long term purchase as it's not much more than a small tent on wheels. It was camping next to another couple's trailer tent that gave us the idea for the purchase. Our trailer tent is small and light enough to be towed by a 1,400 cc car and you haven't got the added costs of road tax and insurance which come with campervan or motorhome ownership. In theory it sleeps eight but we'll probably just use it to sleep four. We've never had problems with noise with all the years we've camped at Glasto but it was a drag having to lug our big tent and all the gear from our car to where we camped. Next year we will at least be able to drive to where we will be staying and will have more space and better facilities than in our tent. The downside seems to be the walk in every day and the fact that it seems 'pot luck' where you get sited. From some of the posts, it seems that first come bears no relationship to how good a location you get directed to. I think we'll also take a small tent onto the main site to have a resting spot by day along with the rest of our friends who'll still be camping. It does seem that you get a mixed deal considering the extra money you have pay to campervan/motorhome or trailer tent.
StoneCircle
Having space, a good bed, heat if needed, running water, a few home comforts and your own cooking facilites more than makes up for the walk!
Nixy
Right guys, this 'hill of Death' - just how big IS it? Does anyone have a photo of the hill? Or what the camper van fields look like in relation to the whole site? I've got the site map but it's kinda flat with no scary hills mentioned at all We're just in process of buying a T2 VW *wooot* so I'm following this thread like a crazy thing

Nixy
Cheers ears I was thinking how bad could an iddy biddy hill be......expect those words will come back to haunt me Next unrelated CV question - don't suppose anyone has any idea how quickly the CV spaces sell out do they? We can afford the deposit this weekend but would struggle to pay 2 depotsits, 1 full price ticket and the CV space charge as well so were thinking we'd punk it, get the 3 deposits, hopefully, then pay for CV space later on - are we being foolhardy? Should i be raiding the piggy bank to ensure we get it? This is assuming I've read it right that in order to book CV space you have to have paid the full balance on at least one of your tickets?
