MIXFEST
i got searched EVERY single time I went through the campervan gate both going in and out, and even twice in five minutes when I'd forgotten something. Every single thing including batteries in torch removed and searched

504329lt
The security guards at Gate C were surly rude pigs. They should remember that WE are paying their wages and show some courtesy. Personally I think the majority would have made ideal candidiates to be on the gates of a concentration camp. They really are the lowest scum you can encounter. Cooter
I think some (not all) of the searchers have far too many temptations open to them to do the job correctly. A more advanced sreening/training programme for such employees would perhaps be more suitable. I assume they are trained how to spot and search, not how to deal with people in a civilized manner or even what to confiscate and what not to. I didn't get searched at all but from I saw it looked like an over-excited treasure hunt for some of those security guards on PGC.
srvman
look the security guard have an awful time of it...not like normal security jobs...they have to watch everyone pissed off their faces having an immense time, while they generally are extremly nice to me and ive never experienced this...remember these guards are human and some may be a bit power mad... they are the best security guards you will find at any major festival....so stop whinging for being caught doing something illegal im sure you wouldnt be complaining if you were caught with it on the street... srvman
also, security guards are there to enforce rules...if you take away all their power...you get what we get here...a useless police force noone respects and people can get away with blue murder
Josie's Cat
Having to be searched every time you go in and out sounds rubbish. I was thinking about getting a van for next year but won't now, I think that sounds like a load of hassle. Security just helped me through the gates, never even opened a bag or asked if I had glass or anything - but I had two kids in tow - I think your solution is clear.... Josie's Cat
What is Goodwin's law? Also I think "the lowest scum" is a bit OTT. How about Ian Huntley, or Myra Hindley, or Pol Pot? There's a few worse faces I can imagine on the gates than someone who nicks your weed!
MEGABOWL
The 'concentration camp' comparison is utterly ridiculous
russycarps
I cant believe people moan when they get caught doing something illegal. Anyone that cant hide their stash deserves to have it confiscated. Just clench it between your bum cheeks. Simple

glosoli
In 1998 we got stopped by a police/customs+excise/dvla stop and search on the A37. They went through everything we had from our cigs and alcohol and all our clothes giving the car a roadside MOT. They gave us the 'free' oppurtunity to fess up without getting a ciminal record and the assurance we would be able to continue, and true to their word, we were, and for this reason we no longer bring any with us but buy on site now. If we cant get any, we go without, but i dont want to run the risk of having my festival end before its begun! I havent seen any of these searches in recent years so i dont know if ive been lucky or if they were adding to the holds up to get in to the festival. In 2005 dressed as santa i walked past 2 'real' police on site smoking a joint without realising until my wife nudged me and i noticed them, they just laughed at me and walked on! They must have been more caned than me!

Josie's Cat
Yeah why can't they do that? Seems daft to have the vans segregated.

russycarps
Have you read what I said. The type of people who choose to become security guards / debt collectors / government snoops etc are often the same type of people who chose to 'work' at concentration camps. The majority of decent human beings would not wish to be standing on that gate pushing their weight around and gaining satisfaction from each small victory. They are sad sick individuals

Sam Crawley
As someone in the campervan fields who doesn't do drugs I can view all of this with a certain amount of objectivity. I wasn't searched at all last year, and once this year when I hovered to make fun of my brother being pulled in for search!! Anyway, the security types I spoke to on the gate, including the one who searched me, were all decent friendly people. I'm sure there are a few thugs in the service, but they are in the minority. Trying to make out otherwise just because you've had your stash confiscated is pathetic. Now, what they do with the takings - that is an interesting question, and I'm sure some goes missing. Could you just wait till they've taken it off you then call the police over and get them arrested for possession? So, the search I had was not thorough and I came away thinking that I easily could have had something stashed - he just checked my obvious pockets in my shorts and bag. Interestingly, my younger brother who has "Kanye" style sunglasses and Jack Wills tops was checked almost every single time. So I guess they're going for particular types of look - young, affluent etc. You're also far more likely to be checked at quiet periods, so if you want to get things through, go in with the mid-day crush. We actually staged a diversion on the final day when one of my brothers wanted to bring a good portion of what he had left in - my other two brothers put their shades on and rushed head-down through security - both were pulled whilst brother with stash sauntered calmly through
