beLIEveR
The part which I put in bold... Why are you listing all these bands. I really don't care. The fact is you said (not implied either, clearly said) if a band is on the main stage they are of a higher quality than one on, say, the FR stage. Which is just one of the most stupid things anyone can say in regards to music. Edited July 9, 2009 by beLIEveR
Im_in_a_tent
But why does a big name matter? It's about the quality of the band. I'd much rather watch Dinosaur Jr. headlining the FR than see some awful, self-indulgent, pretentious bollocks from Muse on the Main. scottt
When i go to a festival i want to see a band i wont normally see. Tenacious D, smashing pumpkins, Rage all come to mind. The majority of the bands low down tour every day near my house, i can see them when ever iwant.
Explosions_In_The_Sky
i was just reading the history on the official site and this little quote made me laugh: WTF seriously? this is a bit like the fans wanting bloc party back Edited July 9, 2009 by Explosions_In_The_Sky
midnightradio
Sure, they'll only know by checking them out, but to call someone "f**king stupid" for not wanting to pay £200 when there is nothing on the bill they're actually excited about is pretty rich. Explosions_In_The_Sky
My tastes cross over alot. im as excited for the maccabees as i am for deftones. Unfortunately, theres no big epic band at the top of the line up. They are the main pull of a festival, when non of them appeal, its pretty disappointing. Other than faith no more, there is no big metal act. Last year we had Metallica, rage, Qotsa, tenacious d and slipknot. This year we have FNM and Lost Prophets who are about as metal as fall out boy. scottt
O please enlighten me to the musical differences between RATM and Faith No More? Consider the former were a poor (and much lazier) version of the latter? Again cultural. RATM (OMGOSSHRAAAAAAAGEHEAVYROCKSMASHTHESYSTEM!!!!!DEVIL HORNS) Faith No More (Rubbbbish...Dad rock....not on Kerrang much...don't sing about school shootings....NOT METALLLL) Edited July 9, 2009 by scottt

Explosions_In_The_Sky
I meant this year we have faith no more (a valid act).. and lost prophets who are about as metal as fall out boy. Im all for faith no more. Badly worded, apologies. EDIT i dont even like rage, but i understand its a once in a life time thing, thats what i want froma festival, like we get from faith no more, but no one else really
rexclark
I think people need to realise that they the organisers are not obliged to have a metal day or a large ammount of metal bands. Yes, the festival has a rich history of rock acts but times change. I still believe there are plenty of acts on that would ppeal to people into heavier rock etc... it's just this year it's more spread out. Surely it's better doing that than having all the bands on one day then f**k all else that you like for the rest of the weekend? Plus there is also the added fact that there are two predominantly "Metal" fests on this summer so alot of people wouldn't bother with Reading and Leeds and go to them instead. I'm more into older alternative bands (mostly 90s), there aren't alot of acts on this year I'm bothered about but thats life. I've boght my ticket and I'm gonna go and have a great time and catch some new acts.
beLIEveR
Really? It seems pretty clear to me. If you aren't excited about any of the bands ('heavy' or 'light'), don't go to the festival. There's plenty of time to sell your ticket.
thejimbola
Such tedious arguments. Can't be bothered to read them all. The fact is a vast majority of bands are those that appeal to the younger crowd. At the moment bands like Arctic Monkeys and Fall Out Boy are popular and fashionable and are constantly on music tv. That will change in a few years and something else will be the in thing. There are people that like each type of music that are very closed minded and most people's attitude to metal is exactly what they accuse metal fans of being like to other music. I like good music, not over commercialised crap, most of that is heavier but I am by no means limited in the type of bands I listen to. I am also a metal fan who doesn't really like Slayer much, but I do listen Less Than Jake, Bob Marley and when I'm in the mood for it a bit of 90s dance music. The "heavier" bands this year include Bring Me The Horizon, The Blackout and Fall Out Boy who I think are all terrible. I want good bands at Reading, irrespective of what type of music it is and there aren't that many this year, but I'm still going to have a laugh and I will do. dakyras
There are quite a few bands this year who cross over the 'heavy' and 'not heavy' line at the same time. Bands like Marmaduke Duke and Brand New to name two. I'd even say SB6 were heavy, considering their genre.
Budweiser
I feel sorry for the likes of Fall out boy. The 'heavy' camp don't want them and neither do the 'indie' side, they just kind of sit in no mans land.

midnightradio
...I've got a better idea, why don't you f**k off to V? If you've paid your money and you don't think it's worth it, obviously you shouldn't go. The people who are complaining either have gone in the past and aren't this year because of the lineup, or have paid their money but think the organisers are really taking the piss. Either way, they've got every right to complain. Edited July 9, 2009 by midnightradio
robsadler
why are tenacious d always considered heavy?! they are so bad, jack black is lame.....anyone seen year one? DON'T!!! it is awful. can't some people just give it a little bit of a rest? i'm pretty sure the organisers tried for the likes of ACDC and greenday but for whatever reason couldn't get them. metallica AND rage last year (i think we were spoilt a bit with those headliners from a metal ponit of view) and a lot of the bands mentioned have played in the last few years. check out bands like pulled apart by horses and have a walk around the other stages! rivalschools.price
don't the metal heads musical tastes cross over at all? i understand that it would have been nice to have the traditional metal act headlining on the sunday but for whatever reasons they couldn't do it this year. there is still a bit dotted around. try listening to some indie/dance/punk too....its not all bad! iammonky
The Direction of Leeds/Reading has changed as a direct result of Sonisphere. Heavier bands now have a third option when they tour the UK. Melvin recognised this and made his main stage more indie. He realised it would be harder to pull the major heavier acts on a consistent basis and so has settled for the less than main stage headliner material for the NME stage to compensate. Are we gonna get Guns n Roses and Foo Fighters headlining the main stage next year, I think not. It will be the likes of Snow Patrol and Kasabian. But we will get a higher quality set of NME headliners like Weezer and Slipknot. P.S. This years lineup is piss poor
Lithium05
I think if Slipknot were going to play the NME stage they would have to drasticly increase the size of the stage
iammonky
Id Say the Same for Faith No More but its happening. Faith No More- Kings of Leon wll obviously spilt the crowd As would Slipknot - Kasabian And they have increased the size P.S. Lithium, you probably have already but make damn sure you check out A Wilhelm Scream Most exciting band on the Lineup for Me! robsadler
i think the problem is that a lot of people see metal/rock as one genre but there are many sub genres to keep rockers happy any give them variety. at last years festival for example i watched rage,QOTSA,biffy clyro, serj, manics, alkaline trio, raconteurs, flogging molly, metallica and feeder.i personally dont think those bands sound alike but i do understand an indie fan thinking that all these bands sound exactly the same and should be at download/sonisphere instead. same this year,i'll be watching FNM,rise against and rival schools.three bands who sound totally different to my ears but i played them to my arctic monkeys loving mate who asked me why i always listen to 'that heavy metal shit' and never try to listen to something different. Lithium05
when did emo become fall out boy?!
robsadler
I've always thought of FOB as Pop-Punk(though punk is pushing it) rather than emo. They're not as whiney as the likes of MCR etc More importantly though When did yoda you become?
