Please dont take this the wrong way Rich but, i find the whole thing horrible..

fair enough its your bag and thats cool. However, i had to put up with douche bags playing Razorlight and Cold fuc*ing play on thier guitars and singing badly, all week at glasto once :O , never again...

so a little tip for you, if people look like they are not enjoying your poker face session..stop playing. stop playing and put the weapon down..

As i say not a dig at you, just think of the other people as well. Have a goodun.

Oooh this is hard! are you only allowed 10? Well these are the first 10 to pop into my mind so in no particular order:

The Libertines - Time For Heroes

Arctic Monkeys - When The Sun Goes Down

The Smiths - This Charming Man

Pulp - Common People

Blur - The Universal

Manic Street Preachers - A Design For Life

The Rolling Stones - Sympathy For The Devil

Oasis - Acquiesce

The Killers - Mr Brightside

For all those that don't agree, I'm afraid you're wrong! and for all those that are wondering, I'm afraid The Goombay Dance Band didn't make the top 50!!

Rich quick tip make sure the people around you are up for it, took one of my guitars and guitarlele (mini guitar / uke style) and had a whale of a time with some mates and 'the neighbours' but always put it away (in the car) when people wanted to get their heads down. Haven't taken it for ages as am afraid of it getting nicked now and it tends to attract the 'can I have a go' crowd.

If your sitting around a BBQ some good ones everyone knows

Good Riddance (Time of Your Life) - Green Day

Times Like These - Foo Fighters

Everlong - Foo Fighters

Iris - Goo Goo Dolls (trust me all the girls get nostalgic)

Save Tonight - Eagle Eye Cherry (as above)

Polly - Nirvana

The Drugs Don't Work - The Verve

Blaze of Glory - Bon Jovi

Summer of '69 - Bryan Adams

Run - Snow Patrol (nice and easy strummer)

Every Rose Has Its Thorn - Poison

Boulevard of Broken Dreams - Green Day

House of The Rising Sun - The Animals

Wonderwall - Oasis

Don't Look Back In Anger - Oasis

Anything by Newton Faulkner or Seasick Steve obviously sounds great but can be a bit technical to include the precussion too.

Generally I wouldn't advise taking a dance tune and playing it on an acoustic, but if you can make it work fair play. Just make sure you can play it after a few beers as there's nothing worse than someone who can't sing and is out of tune / playing crap chords belting out bad versions of songs. If you want it to work try and play what your neighbours will enjoy so they are involved, otherwise they will get hacked off... so have a few instant sing along songs everyone knows and keep asking if they are ok with you playing so they can tell you when they've had enough.

But best advice is do it Friday during the day and then put the guitar away for the weekend so you don't brass everyone off or attract the attentions of the thieves.

Oh one last piece of advice - make sure you sound good and are confident as if you're crap soemone will tell you, or worse still they might pull out a guitar and outplay you... did that at a local festival and the bloke had a bottom lip like a catfish as he thought he was a virtuoso (he was at best a RGT Grade 3 acoustic) so get your chops and riffs in order.
