rivalschools.price
If I came on and complained about the Dance line-up I'd expect to be told to go to Creamfields/Global Gathering/Glade. But I wouldn't complain about it as I'm not at the fest for one particular genre of music.
thegremlin_1999
yeah, but if reading had at least one major dance act headlining and some other large dance acts throughout the main stage for the last 8 or 9 years, surely you would expect the same when you booked your ticket in advance and got time off work.maybe you then would get annoyed when you try to put this valid reason for being disappointed with the line only to be told by a pileof indie fans to 'f**k off to creamfields/glade'

scottt
I aimed my comment at people who want more metal and hevay artists this year, as I said there are other valid reasons to dislike this years lineup.
Explosions_In_The_Sky
i propose that we make 'if you want rock/metal,f**k off to download/sonisphere' the official catchphrase of the efestivals forum. as this is the standard answer to anyone who dares to discuss the lack of major rock bands on the bill i think it is quite fitting that we should have a logo just under the efestivals sign. also note-as recently as today, people are still telling us to go to download for our rock. i feel it is my duty to inform you that this is now impossible as download finished a good few weeks ago. so please,if you see any posters saying that they dont want to watch bloc party or kaiser chiefs dont forget to tell them to 'f**k off to sonisphere' only and leave download out of the statement.this only applys until aug 2nd when sonisphere finishes, after which ive no idea where you can tell them where to go(or maybe you could listen to their points)
thomasowen
Buti do want more heavy artists, to make up for the lack of variation
Budweiser
No, i wont f**k off to download and sonisphere plus Deftones are playing and are worth all the metal at the festival in my opinion. rivalschools.price
How childish. You sound like the older generation who still go to Ibiza, yet moan all the time as it's 'now full of young people and not as peaceful as it was back in the 70s'. As I said in the other thread, Reading has never been a metal or rock festival, it's a popular music festival. If it doesn't cater to your personal taste, then tough crap. Don't throw your toys out the pram over it.

rexclark
Lets say Faith No More were announced in the initial line up as headliners, would people still be complaining?

Budweiser
I don't think so. If you swapped Kings of leon and Kaiser Chiefs with Faith No more and Lost Prophets I reckon 90% of the people complaining about lack of heavy music would not be. scottt
That makes no sense. You don't make up for a lack of variation by adding more of just one genre.
Explosions_In_The_Sky
With 3 "indie" headliners, a big metal/rock headliner would add more variation.. Edited July 13, 2009 by Explosions_In_The_Sky

thetime
speaking as someone who has been for the last 12 years, I really don't think it has changed much at all in regards to its target market
scottt
Well, from a quick Wiki consultation going back to 1989 (so in twenty years of lineups) I count 47 different headliners. Out of them, who aren't Metallica, there's been 4 predominately metal headliners: Rage Against The Machine Linkin Park Iron Maiden Guns N Roses. As for other styles of headliner? (of which there's 43) Kings of Leon Arctic Monkeys Radiohead The Killers Razorlight RHCP Smashing Pumpkins Franz Ferdinand Muse Pearl Jam Pixies Foo Fighters the Darkness White Stripes Green Day Blur The Strokes Manic Street Preachers Eminem Oasis Pulp Stereophonics The Charlatans Page & Plant Beastie boys Garbage ...and it goes on. Can't be bothered to write up the rest, but you get the point.
Benj
But howmany of them would appeal to metal heads? Alot. How many this year would? 0.
scottt
When you state 'metal heads' you mean 'you' don't you. If they're not heavy enough for you, you have Lost Prophets and Faith No More to see, if you don't like them, then tough titties. tombenj
I'd say metal head would mean people who only like metal, but whatever keeps you happy. As for Faith no More, they're never big enough to headline leeds. I'm talking about headliners only here. There's plenty of everything low down to keep me happy.
