I own both those albums and only break them out as a cure for insomnia. Seriously, when the got announced I really tried to listen to them more - I like the odd track - but if I listen to more than 3 tracks in a row my eyes start to glaze over! Very dull band, who, upon the revelation that they won't play their best song live (f*ck anyone who says different, if any of their songs were better than Creep they'd be better known) I won't be watching. I'd rather the festival end with a bang rather than a snore.

You just sound like a guy who only likes faster paced music, as 'they are boring' (about many a band/artist) is the lazy argument most of my mates who only listen to metal/punk frequently revert to. Time after time I've had to listen to the following unsubstantiated opinions round mine when I've had some music on...

'Radiohead...they are boring

Dylan...he is boring

Arcade Fire...they are boring

Dire Straits...they are boring

Pink Floyd...they are boring

Interpol...they are boring

The Beach Boys...they are boring

Neil Young...he is boring

The Cure...they are boring

Tim Buckley...he is boring

Sigur Ros...they are boring

Eliott Smith...he is boring

Springsteen...he is boring

Jefferson Airplane...they are boring...

...turn it off...it's shit...it all sounds the same...don't you have any Dragonforce, Metallica or Pendulum?' Unbelievably, many of them will shout at me for putting on something like Soundgarden, Screaming Trees or Pearl Jam (as it's old and shit) yet will sit their grinning in a Nirvana hoodie ;) .

To call something boring reflects more on you than it does anyone else. No matter how rabid, ineffectual and awful a cultural text is (whether it be movie, music album, video game, book etc) it should never be described as 'boring'. It's a lazy, non explanatory critique.

Radiohead, if you had any understanding of the technicality's of music, are far from 'boring'. There is some very very complex stuff going on. Far far far more complex than the next gutter punk rock band knocking out the same old shitty power chords for £4 each a night as they are 'living the dream' instead of getting a f**king job. Radiohead, once you get pass the bends, really did dip into a lot of different styles of music Kraut, Jazz, iDM, Glitch etc. I can understand maybe No Suprises or Nice Dream or Pyramid Song being considered 'boring' as standalone efforts. However, that's another issue with the 'Radiohead are boring' critique. The majority of people who hold it, have only really heard the singles. Well, yes, maybe the slower pace of some songs on their own may put someone off, however, Radiohead are an album band not a singles band. In the context of the album, the slower songs fit in well. I know it may be hard to understand in this day and age of downloading the song you like off Itunes and ignoring the rest, but many artists do actually aim to release congruent albums!

As for their live show being boring? It's a thing called atmosphere. Not everyone gets off on beating the shit out of each other to fast 11!RIFFS!^, expending great deals of needless energy. Some of us like to step back, admire a well executed light show and admire the experimentation and improvisation on offer from a class act of musicians.

As for Creep...it's shit. They know it's shit, and we know it's shit. It's puerile & formulaic and one of the main reasons the band became to be typecast as mortuary music. Pretty much all the songwriting post Pablo Honey has taken it's cues from a wide breadth of culture, from novels, movies or fellow musicians. The characterization of every Radiohead song sounding like Pyramid Song, and being about a wino of a man who can't get laid is the usual ignorant fare peddled about by those who want to be seen as reactionary to a popular band, without having listened to them enough to form a real critique.

Long post, but I'm on my lunch break and it's raining heavy outside, hence boredom.

Having read this all the way through having previously scanned through it it, I have to say, you come across as a smug, self satisfied pretentious prick who is talking down at anyone who doesn't share his opinion, and essentially assuming that people who don't agree with Radiohead being the best thing since sliced bread are just too thick to understand the intricate musical stylings. Bullshit. Radiohead are not for everyone, and not liking them does not make someone intellectually inferior to those who do.

Honestly you sound like the sort of person who think muse are the best live band on the circuit because they dazzled you with some fancy lasers.

but if you are bored when listening to a band and everything about that band bores you then surely 'boring' is a fair way of describing how you feel about them.you use radiohead as an example and say that other people shouldnt use boring to describe them as they are talented and diverse.its possible than some could accept that they are talented and diverse but still personally find them boring.

u2 and coldplay bore the arse off me but that doesnt mean that i think that they arnt talented.

If you find Radiohead boring, there is nothing at all wrong with that.

how does there technical abillity come into that in anyway? I know people who find say Led Zeppelin and Metallica boring because the solo's are too long. Fair enough. if you dont like it, you dont like it.

I doubt they think theyre bad musicians. You can respect how good musicians are, doesnt mean they particularly interest you

i think people describing music as boring is fair game. after all, if it sounded interesting then you'd be a fan, right? any music that someone doesn't like is going to be boring to them.

having said that, it does annoy me how people tend to think that because of this, they then feel the need to constantly one-up other people and belittle their music tastes. i'm a radiohead fan, and today this came up while i was talking to someone. he was telling me how they were boring and shit. bit pointless and an obvious attempt to provoke but at the end of the day, it's their opinion, doesn't affect me or my listening. but they then continued to try and prove the point by trying to see if everyone else we were with thought they were shit, etc, as though this was some sort of evidence. i said nothing! i don't understand the need in trying to battle music tastes.

so effectively i think both sides of the coin are a bit pointless here. lith, i have noticed that you do tend to try to wind people up by simply labelling things as "shit" "boring" etc. no offence, but chill out? i do think muse are one of the best live bands on the circuit at the minute - what does that make me? you just made yourself into the very thing you were arguing against.

smile guys! we're all in it for the music, booze and mud fields.

Sorry if it comes across as "one-upsmanship" but all I'm looking for is the admission that Radiohead aren't for everyone. To accuse people of musical ineptitude because they find a band boring is ridiculous. At no point have I said anything like "Radiohead are shit, I don't like them and you shouldn't either" All I've said is I find them boring. I don't expect everyone to like my favourite bands, and I'm not sure why Radiohead fans expect everyone to be fans of a band who are obviously not going to be everyone's cup of tea.

Oh and yes, I enjoy the odd wind-up, got to pass the time at work some how

not sure why radiohead fans get so defensive when people dont like them.i love RATM and if anyone slagged them off last year it didnt make any difference to my personal enjoyment of them.same goes for FNM this year, people can call them 'boring','shit','unfashionable' or whatever but it wont bother me in the slightest, still be in the front row on friday night.
