To be honest with less than 2 weeks to the festival what were you guys really expecting in the last announcement??....cant believe you actually thought slipknot were gona be in that annoncemnt and accept a spot like 4th down on the 2nd stage lol...if they were gona be announced it would of been the day after download. seriously tho all i was expecting in the final announcment was a couple of small shitty bands like madina lake etc....but no they surprise us with an abba tribute band....and once iv had a load of beers down my neck i certainly know what i would rather be listening and singing along too!! :P

Promoters dont actually approach bands in the last couple of weeks before a festival, they are in talks with bands months before the event, so any band regardless of size could be announced in the last few days.

Also your attitude begs the question, "do i belong at a ROCK concert"?

i think you're missing the point

sonisphere has a specific audience. they acknowledged this themselves when they called themselves a rock festival. also, this statement is one which is really important here, they went on to quote that they wouldn't book anyone like "arctic monkeys or radiohead" but then proceeded to book an abba tribute act - i think it's safe to say that even an indie band would've gone down better than this.

considering the sonisphere audience is rock/metal fans, i find it pretty amazing how you don't see why people are annoyed. i'm personally not too bothered, i'll go to bohemia. but this really is pissing all over their initial "quality vs quantity" statement. i don't think bjorn again are really an established rock or metal act, so the apparent "quality" will be completely lost on the majority of people i expect. if it was glastonbury, ok, fair enough. but sonisphere doesn't have as diverse an audience.

I agree with every word that you're saying r0w, I'm just stunned that they're actually serious about having an Abba tribute band at a festival that's made a point of not being "indie schmindie". I don't think it devalues the festival in any way (obviously, Slipknot would have been better ;)), I'm just stunned now that I'm convinced this is genuine.

Here's the thing though. Even taking into account the fact that most people who don't want to see them won't bother, the organisers can't possibly think that Bjorn Again are going to go down well can they? I'm sure you'll tell me, and I completely agree, that the people who watch them and moan about it will be idiots. But surely they're still going to get a rocky reception at best?

:P;)

Im not missing the point at all, i get the point. im just saying with 2 weeks left the best u could of hoped for in the announcement was a 'madina lake, enter shikiri or an alexisonfire'...in other words another average band to sit through. At least everyone who is drinking can have a laugh with Bjorn Again unless your wound that tight of course. :P Jesus its only 1 act out of say 40 or 50....its hardly turned a 'hard rock' festival into V Festival has it? youv still got your Metallica's, Black Sabbath's, NIN, AIC, Mastodon's etc

oh cmon! enter shikari, madina lake or alexisonfire would fit into the lineup better than an abba tribute act! plus it's very narrow minded to call them average, considering the success and credibility (well, shikari and alexis) they've had. average to you maybe, but they are still established rock acts who are able to gain decent positions on rock festival lineups, and i'm pretty confident that these would go down better with the general sonisphere audience. after all, that is the most important factor. i know who i'd rather see over an abba tribute act.

like the guy above me said - this was advertised, and clearly stated, as a rock/metal fest. so adding bjorn again is pretty ridiculous considering that fans would buy tickets based on the bands already announced. any emoish/modern rock band would at least have something in common with the lineup in terms of genre. metal/rock festivals are a completely different ball game to festivals like glastonbury or reading/leeds where wild cards can work. this is just silly. don't get me wrong - it might go down well - but i just get the feeling a band which fits the ethos of the festival, and the lineup that they stated they intended to make (let's not forget these important statements - QUALITY OVER QUANTITY and ROCK FESTIVAL) would go down better.

i don't even dislike abba. i think they were really important in the history of pop music, and i have listened to, and enjoyed them. i'm not ashamed to admit that. but like i said, i'll be in bohemia - not because i'm too wound up about these things, but simply because abba tribute acts aren't my sort of entertainment. like i said before, if you can watch them and enjoy it then good for you. but not my cup of tea cheers. tribute acts are the sort of thing i go to pubs for. not a rock festival which is setting itself up to be high profile.

Super Trooper = F~ck off.

Money, money, etc. = F~ck off and die

Dancing queen = Time for the f~ucking shotgun.

Please let this be some kind of hoax, or SG has lost what little credibility he had left :P

Genuinly chuckling at the people who think this is a coverup. It's happening folks!

It's a shame really because you can tell that Galbraith is trying to add that real festival element of silliness to proceedings and I know that this has been in the works for months, but the metal / rock community are so hell-bent on a festival for its lineup more than anything else that this looks set to fall flat.

To be fair, if its a fun element they were after, surely the likes of Reel Big Fish, Less Than Jake, Flogging Molly, NOFX, Bowling For Soup etc. Would have been a more sensible choice than feeding an Abba cover band to a bunch of angry metalheads.

It is happening, I'm just not sure why.

Clearly (sorry, one of m favorite words) you are missing the point!! Imagine the chaos if BA were announced at Bloodstock, there'd be carnage. Sonisphere promised us it was a "metal / heavy rock" fest, which is why I bought tickets on the day they came out, not to put up with some sh!te abba ttriute act. I can go down the local and see that kinda shit.
