i just won some with ents 24.

can't believe it! i don't know what to do because i'm on holiday the week after so can't really get the weekend off work as that'd be 2 in a row and that'd use up all my holiday, which i need for coming home from uni at christmas. also can't really afford costs of transport/food/booze atm.

i'm not really a metal head, but i would love to see a few of the bands. i can't make it to the useds tour and i've never seen them before so it'd be my only chance!

i've got a friend who'd kill to go with me aswell, and she loves the lineup.

i really don't know what to do! the fact that they're not selling for much on ebay makes me think it'd be stupid not to go tho! arghh

I agree completely that they were never going to make money in the first year (and that selling 60,000 tickets was probably never likely). But I'd dispute that it's a couple of hundred tickets they've given away. If anecdotal evidence is anything to go by it's several thousand.

Obviously if the tickets aren't going to sell, giving them away makes a lot of sense; it raises awareness, get people's money through merchandise, increases the chance of them coming in 2010, etc. I'm just curious as to how they're going to tempt people to spend money earlier next year, on the assumption that there is a next eyar. If we did Soni again, out of 14 or 15 of us we'd probably buy one or two tickets early, and the rest of us would wait until late June/ early July before bothering. Not because we weren't confident in how good the festival would be (if we don't like it this year, we wouldn't return, if we do, we probably would), but because there seems to be a lot more incentive to wait.

I seriously doubt its several thousand, maybe 1000 max. I can see where your coming from though, but tbh most people wont know about ticket giveaways, and I wouldnt expect so many next year. The main issue with Sonisphere is, that at the moment, its not established, and it doesnt have the press that means the average person doesnt know about it at all. They get people to go this year, and have a good time, it will become bigger through word of mouth and what not, and then more and more people will look out for it next year.

So I dont think giveaways will affect ticketsales in future years, because the raised awareness will make up for it.

Jesus, I've just looked at the prices on eBay, that is insane. Feel like a right mug now for paying full price, but I guess no one was to know how this fest was going to work out

Ah f**k it, me and my mates will make the most of it. At least it looks like the weather is going to be OK fingers crossed
