Some more tips that have served us well in the past :

1. Take loads of baby wipes & loo roll

2. If you don't mind lugging the extra weight take a camping stove/disposable bbq & camping kettle. The ques in the morning to get a horrible brew from the vans suck balls & as you'll be up early you'll have time to kill. Cooking breakfast is fun & cheap.

3. Take a load of bin bags. Multi purposes, especially if the weather is like recent years. You can use them to sit on the ground, for keeping wet clothes apart from dry ones & keeping your general camping area (half) liveable.

4. Get to know your neighbours. Loads of people get robbed every year, even though it's a huge minority knowing who should be in what tent around you helps. Last year I baked a load of 'special' brownies & dished a few out...I got paid back in loads of beer which helped as we ran out early Sunday.

5. Waterproof hiking boots are a million times better than wellies, there's a lot of walking at V & if it's wet your feet will thank you come Monday. I got some a few years back from my local Sports/Soccer/Chav World & loads of festies later they're still going strong.

6. Get your beer tokens on the Friday as soon as you get there. Unlike other fests that use the token system there's always big ques for beer tokens at V, if you get sorted out while peeps are still arriving no the Friday you wont waste precious time when acts are on.

7. Smuggling drinks into the arena is pretty easy, I usually walk around the arena perimeter & see which stewards are being jobsworth gits & which look like uninterested youths who can't wait to knock off. Last year I got my personal best of 9 cans of lager in all on my person...'Midnight Express' style!

8. If you see a toilet pee in it. If you've not been to V before but have been to other fests there's nothing that will prepare you for the sheer amount of queing, take advantage wherever possible.

For all you young uns (especially the young guy who done the thread about getting laid). Just couldn't help myself but laugh at the glow in the dark bit!

Loving this thread, mucho respect to "indie" for taking the effort the write the original post. As an oldie on here (32!), I would have to add ear plugs to get a good nights sleep, and a good lay in! A couple of tip-type questions... (baring in mind I will be at Hylands Park)

* We've got camping chairs at the ready, but should we wait and buy an inflatable sofa instead? Are they really only £5?!

* Currently aiming to get to the site at 11am, are we going to have long delays getting in and getting to the Red campsite? What would be the optimum time to try and arrive?

* It sounds like there is some kind of Efestivals "zone"....how do we get in on some of that action as a pair of "newbies"? Could be handy to maybe have a bit of space allocated to us...or is that just cheeky has non-hardened efestival members?! If it helps, Im a magician so can show a few card tricks to earn our place! lol

* It would be good to bring a couple of barbeques to do some food, but what about the "freshness" of the burgers/sausages/bacon that you bring?! Or does no one worry about that?!

Can i just ask, is there any chance of me getting into green before it fills up, because my coach doesnt leave until 10am, so il be arriving around 1.30ish, and greens the furthest away from the coach drop off, so will there be any space left?

I am 33 and only fall asleep once my body tells me too and then there's no waking me for a bit anyway, no to ear plugs for me, we had such a laugh playing blind kareko all night last year and listening to other people snoring.

The inflatable chairs are £10 but I always go half with a friend, they are so comfy and they are put up for you on site, they sell them at Chelms as well as Stafford.

The Efest zone is at Stafford organised by the wonderful Shop till you drop (Laura) I am not sure if anyone does this for Chelmsford but someone should get on it, it is fantastic for people to get to know each other, new festival goers and people who go on their own.

I don't take food, I went to Board masters last week and the ham in the cooler looked wet and rank just a few hours later, I personally think the food vans are cheap enough once you consider paying for the gas and oil and food and the hassle of it but each to their own on this.

I honestly don't know about the traffic in Chelsmford
