Diamond Solitaire
I went to Reading as always... Friday Dananananaykroyd - 7/10 (Brilliant despite the wall of cuddles turning into more of a wall of death) Tim Minchin - 8/10 (First time I've ever seen a comedy act at Reading, didn't disappoint) The Horrors - 7/10 Jack Penate - 5/10 (Dragged along in exchange for dragging every one else along to The Horrors, enjoyed myself a lot more than I ever expected) Bombay Bicycle Club - 8/10 Lovvers - 6/10 Kings of Leon - 2/10 (Biggest disappointment I've ever had at the festival. They were amazing in 2007 this year just failed so badly) Saturday Pulled Apart By Horses - 7/10 Them Crooked Vultures - (Got back in the arena a bit late and couldn't get in the tent so can't really rate them, they were really good supporting Arctic Monkeys a few nights before though) The Maccabees - 9/10 (My tenth time seeing them and certainly one of the best) The Prodigy - 8/10 (Not quite as mad as I expected and probably could have done with being a little louder, but still a brilliant set) Arctic Monkeys - 8/10 (Would have been even better if the new album had been out a little longer) Sunday Kids In Glass Houses - 3/10 (Another band I was dragged along to but just as bad as all the other times I've been forced to see them) Titus Andronicus - 6/10 Lethal Bizzle - 8/10 (So much more fun than it had any right to be) The Joy Formidable - 7/10 Vampire Weekend - 6/10 (Pretty drunk at this point so probably seemed a lot better than they actually were) Yeah Yeah Yeahs - 4/10 (Outside of Radiohead these were the guys I was most looking forward to seeing, sadly not as good as I hoped) Bloc Party - 7/10 (A lot better than last year) Radiohead - 9/10 (About as close to perfect as you can get)

zero000
Friday: The Temper trap - 6/10 Little Boots - 5/10, would have been 4/10 but i've given her extra for A) laughing at her trying to take her shoes off and because shes fit The Horrors - 7/10, good set glasto was better though The Big Pink - 8.5/10, really impressed the new album should be amazing Placebo - 8/10, didnt know much of their material but they still put on a good show KOL - 3/10, some good tunes. But they were way better in 2007/their december uk tour. Plus they bored me and Caleb acted like a spoilt c**t. If you don't want such a bland audience dont make such a mainstream album as Only By The Night, simple. Saturday Delphic - 8/10, really enjoyed Spinerette - 4/10, very boring, brody dale acted like she was god Metric - 8/10, awesome tunes Patrick Wolf - 8/10, really good Them Crooked Vultures - 7.5/10, good but overated Ian Brown - 2/10, his voice is dire The Prodigy - 9/10, good performance Arctic Monkeys - 8/10, let down by their poor choice of set/lame crowd. Much better at Brixton Sunday: The XX - 8/10 The Joy formidable - cant remember  Crystal Castles - 7/10, good show, new song sounded good Yeah Yeah Yeahs - 9/10, awesome set Bloc Party - 5/10, i like bloc party but i am well and truely sick of them now. Also Kele acted like a dick, its not becasue we love you so much, that you got invited back 3 years running, its because the festival bookers are lazy c**ts Radiohead - 10/10, Best band of the weekend by a mile. Perfect setlist and the crowd was amazing Edited September 5, 2009 by zero000

dave_mac
placebo - 5/10 wasn't too impressed with the performance or setlist, wasn't terrible, just wasn't especially good and slightly disappointing deftones - 8.5/10 - great set, great band, great to see chino bouncing around and losing weight! mariachi el bronx 2/10 - got old quickly after the first couple of songs. radiohead - 9/10 - no need for explanations really bloc party - 6.5/10 - silent alarm was great, everything else, not so much. think they could do with a break from reading/leeds brand new - 5/10 - not terrible, but disappointing kaiser chiefs - 3/10 - was at the bar to the left of the main stage reading for most of their set, they did a good job at working the crowd but i just wasn't interested, not my thing faith no more - 9/10 - awesome set, mike patton is a genius. too young to catch them first time round, glad i caught them this time! them crooked vultures - 8/10 - couldn't see a thing due to the crowd and lost my friends but the set was really exciting nonetheless dananananakroyd - 7/10 - not as good as i had anticipated but still a good show. chuck ragan - 3/10 - caught half the set, wasn't my thing, so went to check out spinnerette spinnerette - 4/10 - wish brody has stuck to the distillers... frank turner - 9.5/10 - only problem i had with this was that i think frank works better in smaller venues. great singalong set, perfect for a festival afternoon lethal bizzle - 0/10 - sat outside the nme tent waiting for some friends before franky t and had to listen to maxwell bizzle murder the english language/early 90s hip hop/rock (house of pain, nirvana) leftover crack - 8/10 - really energetic and exciting band, was worried they'd end up being a bit of a mess having not seen them before but really enjoyed their set the ghost of a thousand - 8.5/10 - awesome band, my main gripes were that i don't think the sound was too great at that point in the tent, and ghosts shouldn't have been on so early anyways! rise against - 9.5/10 - only got into these guys over summer really (partly because i had no intention of catching the monkeys or the gossip when i saw the line up back in spring!) but i've grown to love them. only fault was all the dust in the lock up thursday - 8/10 - my friend who is a massive thursday fan was disappointed with the setlist but as i wasn't too familiar with their back catalogue i left really impressed with the performance. the bronx - 8/10 - did what they did best, a balls out punk rock show. rival schools - 7/10 - great to see them back, and playing new songs! set was spoilt alot by a large group of d*ckheads next to me in the crowd... deadmau5 - 7/10 - wasn't planning on seeing anyone in the dance tent but we ended up seeing a good half of deadmau5 set and to be honest i enjoyed it more than i thought i would. wouldn't have wanted to be in the tent mind for it, looked like a sauna in there! brendon burns - 8/10 hilarious as always, not quite as good as last year, but still a great way to pass an hour or so 65daysofstatic - 9.5/10 - everyone around me was just in a trance for the whole set, a genuinely show stopping band marina and the diamonds - 7.5 - only really intended to check out a couple of tracks since they are one of my best mate's favourite bands, but eneded up seeing almost all of it, much more exciting than i anticipated the chapman family - 9/10 - was blown away by these guys, went in expecting a shoegazy joy division, ended up with something more like joy division crossed with a demolition crew. glorious. pulled apart by horses - 7/10 - really energetic , some great tunes, but i couldn't help but the band themselves come across as rather irritating, docking them a mark
beau1
The bands I saw more then 3-4 songs - full of. Friday The Plight - 6/10. Weren't too bad in the grand scheme of things but it seemed like a poor start for some reason at the time. Manchester Orchestra - 8.5/10. One of the best bands on the Friday, hadn't heard much by them previously but I thought they were very good. The Virgins - 8/10. Another surprise early on friday, didn't know much about them but they were very good. The Airbourne Toxic Event - 7/10. Ok, but nothing spectacular. Little Boots - 5/10. Pretty much what I expected, big crowd though but I think that could have been caused by the shower that was at the begining of her set. The Horrors - 3/10. Pretty crap, I don't really like this sort of stuff that has more emphasis on guitar effects and noise rather than an actual tune. Pretty much fell asleep. Leftover Crack - 5/10. I found them a bit scary tbh. Could have been the wasted singer and all the talk of f**king pigs and killing cops though. Bouncing Souls - 8/10. I don't particuluarly like the Underground punk and Ska scene but these are pretty good . Alexisonfire (Lockup) - 6/10. Was outside of the tent waiting for Anti-Flag so their set kind of passed me by. Anti-Flag - 7.5/10. Similar to what I said about Bouncing Souls. Its a nice scene but I don't really enjoy it. Good enough though. Kings of Leon - 6.5/10. The sound was very poor on the right side of the stage where I was, it was an ok performance but not mind-blowing. Got cold and left after 6 songs thought. Saturday The Rakes - 7/10. Were ok, bit samey samey indie though. Eagles of Death Metal - 7/10. Can't really remember them now to be honest, were a bit overshadowed by Them Crooked Vultures later on. Patrick Wolf - 2/10. A bit like a Panto, was only a laugh for the amount of times he adjusted his hair per song. Them Crooked Vultures - 9/10. Very impressive, complete surprise to me as well because I didn't know anything about the special guest slot. Was a laugh to be sitting outside the NME tent and see everyone run up from the mainstage direction. You Me At Six - 6/10. Kinda average bubblegum punk, not my thing but ok. The Maccabees - 8/10. The first band that I saw that really said "festival" to me, people getting up on their feet and dancing outside of the Nme tent. White Lies - 8/10. Seen them twice before and although this wasn't their best performance (that was at the NME BIG GIG) it was still very good even if they were very nervous. The Prodigy -7/10. Seemed good but the crowd was a bit hostile, even on the sides near the toilets. Felt a bit too much like a big rave. Sunday Noah and The Whale - 8/10. A pleasant surprise on the sunday morning, nice relaxing tunes. The Living End - 7.5/10. Out of the more popular pop punk bands these were one of the best. The View - 7/10. Average indie stuff, was bearable but not brilliant. Brand New - 6/10. Not as bad as I thought they may be but still not my kind of thing. Vampire Weekend - 9/10. Very fun . Got everyone dancing and singing. Yeah Yeah Yeahs - 7/10. Were pretty good but the sound quality didn't seem too good for them. Bloc Party - 9/10. One of the best bands of the weekend, great lights and sound. Lightspeed Champion - 6/10. Weird 60s sounding band who I couldn't really get into. La Roux - 4/10. My GF wanted to see her/them, she wasn't too impressed with them live and neither was I. Radiohead 8/10. Very impressive lightshow and good set but I don't see what the huge fuss is about. rexclark
as i was in the front row i didnt know(or care) what size crowd FNM had but ive heard several people say it was pretty small, but if you look at the highights shows on youtube or whatever when the camera pans to the back of the crowd there seems to be loads there(albeit not packed to the rafters)
