superdjc
The problem is that the Arctic Monkeys new record is just not very good. Therefore if you play a lot of songs from it, your gig is not going to be very good.
liam
They were pretty boring but I am a 'casual fan' of them. They've written some brilliant stuff so it was fustrating not to see a great live performance to match. No stage presence, no interaction with the crowd, no real variety throughout the performance. It's not hard to ask the audience to clap a little during a song, or get them to sing part of a famous song themselves.
benissright
Theres more to stage prescence than crowd interaction.
tomisnothere
I find all of that stuff a bit cheesy. Sure, it works, but it's not necessarily needed. I don't really think clapping or singing along makes a major difference - people do it themselves anyway. Same thing happened with Radiohead, they didn't aim to get the crowd going. Just got on, played a great set, and left.

batman_23
i thought they were brilliant and not what i expected at all. was really impressed how they have grown up a bit and playing all round better music (IMO). It was really chilled out and was one of the main highlights of my festival experience.

robsadler
i quite like arcitc monkeys and have seen them several times but i have never been particularly impressed by their live performances. i have to say i was bored to tears, much like i was at last shadow puppets last year and when i saw them about 18 months or so ago in cardiff. for me they fail for a number of reasons the main one being they don't have any presence about them or enough anthems. there are bands that i don't like but because they have a good front man (marilyn manson etc), you are drawn to or they have the songs that you can sing along at the end of a long day with your mates (oasis etc) or they are legends with massive back catalogues and are a bit special (radiohead etc). i just think they are very over rated. i saw them shortly after their debut in a small venue and they were excellent then but they just can't cut it on a big stage in front of a big crowd. White Noise
I could forgive them for playing a lot of the new album if they had balanced it with more of the upbeat material. Apart from "Brian" and "Dancefloor" the rest of the set seemed to involve shoehorning every song they had that would fit in with the new sound. As if to prove "Look, it's not a radical departure. There's always been an element of this to our music". Combined with their stage presence dropping even further since they were second on the bill, it did not represent entertainment for most of the crowd. NikNik
I really enjoyed the set. I love the new album and think there is a sense of more maturity instead of just playing Fake Tales or Dancefloor songs 12 times in a set. I enjoyed the new stuff and think its a different show they put on now. They have never been a band that flip around and run around to keep the crowd entertained (which is what some people seem to need to enjoy a band e.g Maximo Park). The oinly thing that has changed is they have gone for a darker heavier set which i do like. They are not the same band that came around a few years ago and if they were to play Mardy Bum it may have seemed a step in the wrong direction. I was with 2 mates and 1 hadnt heard any of the new album and he didnt enjoy it alot really. Its all about opinions and preferences but I think if you are a big fan you would have enjoyed it, casual fans would be left disapointed but that can be expected. niknik
