markeee
i know its always been a "younger" crowd in the sense of the word, but this year it was literally 16 year old girls. Its turning into t4 on the beach. forgive me if im sounding stupid, but ive never heard something so boring in my life then the idea of watching your favorite band in a crowd full of 16 year old clueless girls, regardless of how good looking thry are! JakusMaximus
I'm 18 and i actually felt old this festival, there was alot less wandering and talking to randomers because i just felt as if i was in the wrong place some of the time, that being said saturday night was bloody amazing, it does still exist at reading but the crowd has definately changed! And good shout about the 16 year old girls lol, this was by far the best year for eye candy at reading i've ever been too - Just a shame that from experience alot of them were underage, immature or just c**ts not worth talking too. howlin_pete
How old were people when they first went to the fesitval? I was 15, which is younger than the majority that attend now and that was 7 years ago. Maybe thats not that long ago for some people who have been going longer, but as long as I've been going its been a very young crowd

pigshair123
Interesting, because I camped in Purple as well, and the most trouble we got from the so called 'mob' was a pathetic attempt to remove a telegraph pole, followed by an even worse attempt to remove the sign on it. It was so funny it actually became a bit of a highlight of the weekend for us. We were in P9 though, slighty away from the main bits, so maybe you weren't so lucky. I'm 18 going on 60, and this was my first Reading. Having heard a lot about the trouble and the amount of pricks, I was pleasently surprised to see how little this affected my enjoyment. Me and my mates seemed to just chill out, and not let the odd prick amusingly shouting buttscratcher affect us too much. I wasn't overly impressed with the lineup, and went mainly for Radiohead, but provided the lineup is alright next year, I wouldn't hesitate to go again. zero000
even though i'm thoroughly against all the rioting on sunday night there attempt at pulling down that pole was pathetic i found the worse bit was all the people complaining at the stewards when they had their fires put out, was just like mate they are only doing there jobs it's not their faults, the people next to us were chanting "burn #756" as he was putting the fire in which i was quite concerned about as it would only take one overly stupid person to come along and cause some serious harm to them. i blame the t.v. program skins for all of this, as people seem to think they can behave in the same way that they do on it

oldboybailey
I'm 17 and can't help but find a lot of the "the festival has changed so much over the last x years" remarks funny. I'm going to sound really blunt here but maybe it's just that you're getting older, the kind of music which encaptivated you in your youth is no longer the kind of music which inspires the youth of today, just as the music which inspired your parents is different to that of your own. No doubt many of the younger festival goers today will eventually become veterans as you are and complain in a similar way; I just find the whole concept too cliche to take seriously. Moreover, I call bullshit on the "bands have been getting progressively worse" front. Last year saw possibly the best lineup in reading/leeds history. My favourite bands are The Cure, System of a Down, Metallica and John Coltrane whereas, for example, my friend of the same age's favourite bands are The Libertines, Arctic Monkeys, Foals and Pendulum. The lineup last yeat offered a great deal to both me and my friend despite our differences in taste. The 2007 lineup, although arguably not as diverse, also featured an array of influential, great live bands. I'm not going to lie, I found the lineup this year poor in comparison to previous years, but this year was the exception, not the rule. Next year there are a great many good bands that should be free to do reading/leeds which weren't available this year such as The Strokes, Beastie Boys, Blink, Pearl Jam, Muse, Pixies (possibly) and by having an arguably poor year this year, we've taken some 'undesirable' bands out of contention. At the end of the day, the experience you have at the festival is subjective, a great deal depends on where you camp, who you camp with, what you've brought, which day you arrived, which bands you like and so on and although the input of others may have no weight in your decision as whether or not to attend the festival again, I find it pretty crass to put your decision down to the average age of the festival goer (which I don't think has ever really changed) and this year's poor lineup, given that it's been good in the past and is likely to be good next year.
