so what did you all see on the alternative stage?

i was really looking forward to kevin bridges and he never f**king turned up. raging.

seen instigate debate which wasn't even a debate. ended up leaving cause it was boring. and carl barrat is really thick.

also seen joey page (no idea why), he was really shit. it was funny when people were booing and shouting abuse at him.

the highlight was aiden moffat. hilarious. i was expecting some boring poetry or something but it ended up just being a drunk old scottish man saying a lot of offensive words. loved it.

I saw this beatboxer called 'The Petebox', really talented guy. He used a loop pedal to create songs in front of the crowd - and did drum and bass, jazz, house and others. Got the crowd going as well, he had everyone standing dancing to his beatboxing, with a pretty packed out tent!

I saw

Mik Artistik - Great way to start a festival. Even saw him doing an acoustic gig later on in the day near the Main stage with about 10 people watching

Joey Page - The WORST comedian ive ever seen (and ive seen Jason Rouse live) he was just too long with his set ups, and then going off on one saying what does "a festival crowd know about comedy".

Stuckey & Murray - Only caught the chat up line song at the end but sounded good

Tim Minchin - Amazing. This man is going to be huge, dont get why he said he "couldnt" play any of the offensive songs though

Brendon Burns - Really got better and smarter at what he does. Ive let him off from the fake heckler thing he did last year now . Hes actually smart about his offensive material now, the bit where everyone threw bottles at the guy who walked to the front and Brendon said "wo wo wo stop, this is how fascism starts" had me in tears

Dave Twentyman - I know he was the MC for Saturday but i was incredibly impressed with him. Deff going to try catch him doing a propper set

Tom Stade - Dont get the "lets pick a guy out of the crowd and pretend i know him" thing, would of been more funny if he just told the jokes

Steve Gribbin - Only went in because it was raining but that guy made me laugh so so hard. The Stephen Gerrard song was really good.

As you can see The alternative stage is one of my favourite stages, no wonder im planning on going to the fringe next year instead of Leeds

brendan burns after was brilliant had me in stitches especially his impersonation of micheal macntyre. what do you call a spoon with legs? a fork! haha the heckler at the end was brilliant i managed to land a plastic bottle right on his head!

i agree with all the brendon burns love, caught him by chance last year and he was brilliant, ended up seeing him live later that year and buying the dvd was that impressed. me and my mates went to see him again and dragged some more people along and they all loved it.

the man should be more famous than what he is really (although i imagine the fact alot of people don't know him that well is due to his routines, he makes frankie boyle seem as offensive as dave benson phillips...)

also, we happened to walk past the tent when some people were rapping about stds and throwing out free condoms on saturday afternoon (reading) does anyone know what that was about?!

Yes - the one-liner guy was Gary Delaney ; I only caught the back end of his set as I arrived early for Doug Stanhope. Delaney had a really fast, very tight delivery and you could tell he'd been in the game for a few years. Very very entertaining indeed.

Stanhope, on the other hand, was a huge disappointment. He's been touted as "the next Bill Hicks". This guy doesn't even get close and to even mention them in the same sentence was an insult. He appeared to mistake getting up there and randomly slagging off the crowd for humour.

I saw the Stanhope set on youtube. Doug Stanhope is one of the best out there today & the number of people booing him for his extremely dark, unapologetic style is the equivalent of a bunch of death metal fans booing Newton Faulkner for not being heavy enough. Lazy journalists have branded Stanhope as 'the next Bill Hicks' because he's American & anti mainstream, that's it. Whether he was the right act for a casual audience who didn't want anything too challenging? Probably not but his 10 night theatre run in the West End suggests there's a little more than just insulting an audience.

Gary Delaney is one of the best on the circuit.
