dave_mac
the chapman family at reading this year were a big surprise to me, i went along based upon hearing one song and a recommendation from a friend as i had nothing else to do at the time, thinking i might like them, but they completely blew me away! was really surprised, stayed for the entire set just grinning. really good live show/songs (in my opinion) and very impressed that the singer decided to smash up his guitar halfway through the set, carry on, then go back to the smashed guitar at the end of the set to finish it off. but yeah turned out to be a really great set and one of my festival highlights this year! anyways, thought i'd ask what others people's biggest surprises have been at the festival over the years, good or bad, bands or otherwise...x

Trani on 10
Probably the ease at which we drove into the site. No traffic whatsoever. Awesome. Also, surprised how crap Arctic Monkey's set was. Hardly any of the tunes which put them up there to start with....
Matticus
Soulsavers, had heard bits and bobs of them and thought theyd be depressing and boring live, but found them to be quite uplifting

pink_triangle
I am surprised nobody has mentioned the kaiser chiefs, as soon as they were announced the majority on here seemed to think they wouldnt go down very well. However from reports after there appeared to be almost unanimous praise.

moss265
Metric were awesome. I thought they'd be decent but it takes some balls to open with your most well-known song then continue to do a blinding set. And Yeah Yeah Yeahs were excellent too
