He used to manage Heart of Midlothian FC. And maybe Kilmarnock?

A pun. You've posted it in a thread about comedians. How ironic. :D

have you seen his new wildlife show? very funny!

No, Watched his topical news comedy show on ITV for an episode and it was pants so only really watch him on 8 out of 10 cats now. Might check it out tho if its funny.

He did a stand-up gig in my home town, which was abit wierd as its only small. I normally have to travel to Manchester or Carlisle to see someone as big as that. It was very good, quite abit of improv, which I think are the best bits. I cant stand it when a comic comes on, fires out a load of rehursed stuff and leaves.

LW if you go to page 2 of this thread and about half way down there's a youtube clip I posted, 'Minty's Comedian of the month' - that's Jim Jeffries.

Watched it. Oh dear. Not my cup of tea at all. Just crude and not funny with it. In my opinion of course.

This is more my cup of tea (it's audio only with photos alongside it):

billy connolly used to be funny, sadly - he no longer is.

Oh I think he still is, but nowhere near as good as he once was. But that clip I posted was him at his peak IMHO.

I'd still love to see him live.

Also - Josie's Cat - you have a very odd sense of humour!! That Tony Law chap reminded me of a modern-day Arthur Atkinson. I didn't find anything he said funny - it was just a bit weird and random.

Thought the Daniel Kitson clip was brilliant, however.

Jeffries isn't much of a stand up comedian (he just tries to insult whoever and whatever he can). But when he goes on panel shows he's hilarious. If sport's your thing, there's a light hearted sports panel show called Fighting Talk, he's come up with some belters on there. For instance, when asked "Who is the Guy Ritchie of sport, and who's the Madonna", he answered "Well my Guy Ritchie's Harry Kewell, because he started out really awesome... and for my Madonna I'll say Harry Redknapp because he keeps buying Africans"

you should go see him doing one of his story shows

its as close to perfection as comedy gets imho.

and its the only way to see him as never does tv work

which show did you see tugger? I saw him do "its the fireworks talking" and have got tickets for his next one in a few weeks, ITFT was absolutely f**king brilliant. Its funny, because his stammer is glaringly obvious, and I found myself kind of willing him on in quite a patronising way, but after about half an hour you forget it and just enjoy. A joy to watch.

I dont doubt he is probably one of the funniest blokes alive in terms of a dinner party guest, or a pub companion for the evening, but standup-wise he has lost his edge.

I saw him live twice, the first time about 13 years ago, and I cried - it was so funny. The second time I saw him was when he did his massive run at the appollo a few years back, and it was such a massive disappointment. It doesnt matter how good he is at his craft, back in the day he appeared to just be telling funny stories as they cropped up in his mind, and he would go off on tangents and come back, it felt very "freeflowing". but when you are doing 7 nights at a theatre its obviously going to be tightly scripted and loses its raw edge.

I love his travel stuff on the telly, and think he is about as close to TV god Stephen Fry as its possible to get. He reminds me of my uncle now - quite deep, very interested in the world and people's stories, and really good company.

I think I'd agree with that (going my material I've seen on his on TV - I've yet to see him live). I still think he's absolutely hilarious, but as you said, I used to cry with laughing at his earlier stuff which was much better. I disagree with Kowalski - I still find him great.

I love his 'An Audience With...' show - the one with the big slipper and incontinence pants. Brilliant! :D

:)

Different strokes - otherwise the world would be like a tub of vanilla ice cream.

Absolutely! :D
