perfectpassion
Thinking about the above and Arcade Fire...surely if Fleet Foxes can headline? I never thought about the money...I believed that bands played for the Kudos of being invited to perform at the most prestigious musical events of the year....isnt that why HRH and Jarvis were there? I imagined that they were the lucky ones and we were the chosen few Edited October 2, 2009 by perfectpassion
geofelgie
Arcade Fire headlined Latitude though (25,000 capacity, their fee was probably £150K+), Funeral went Platinum in the UK (300,000 sales plus) and Neon Bible made No 2 in the album charts. Whole league or five above Fleet Foxes. I agree that they should be more than happy to do it for the love but then there's the danger of the festival being swamped by fans of one band.............I think in conclusion that it would be much better for them to play a secret set at the festival under a fake name.........maybe "The Canadians Not Known As Ben"???? perfectpassion
Nice idea, but most people only know 'two' Canadians - Arcade Fire and ME! So I think it might be a bit of a giveaway! Ben (Cue multiple replies with 'well-known' Canadians..I'll start: k d lang!) judgeatnam
Yes, as long as they get a decent slot, and in the Big Top. Their teatime Garden Stage performance at EOTR 2008 was probably the weakest I've seen them do. Good call for Scott Matthews - saw him at Latitude and was well impressed. cheesehead
Gotta say, the lineup this year was incredibly strong - I could only allow myself one festival this year, and the lineup for EOTR was streets ahead of the others, even before the Hold Steady. Then all the bands that made me buy a ticket were great, and many of the ones I'd never heard of were brilliant. The whole experience was so great I'll be there next year whoever they sign up (I trust their judgement), but if I had three small wishes.... - Blitzen Trapper back on one of the bigger stages. - At least one old-school head-bobbing r'n'r band headlining - DBT or Lucero (new album today - buy it buy it buy it) would be perfect. - Bob Log III in charge of everything, goddamnit. Sipperana
Totally agree about British Sea Power. We need to see them again in a heaving sweaty big top tent around midnight. Did you hear them doing Johnathon Richman covers at three in the morning in the Tipi tent? I did, as they woke me from my sweet dreams which was a nice awakening!
