yutre
Its not definite but rumoured to be reforming for shows in New York next summer so a possibility for Reading and Leeds? http://drownedinsound.com/news/4137875-pav...o-really?ticker

hearing_aid
Reading won't be anywhere near the top of their festival list, and they would probably get a rubbish crowd, would probably be best to avoid the festival, tho they could play. ATP will be the first UK festivals they do.

benissright
VCK its difficult to lump Manic Street Preachers into that group. And Belle & Sebastian (who actually played a long time ago now in 2006). Both those bands are very familiar to the average reading goer. Pavement definitely arent though. Cant see them playing. But i want them to.
hearing_aid
I'm not so sure, they used to play Reading all the time in the 90s. Yes, I know the demographic has changed since then and most of the Pendulum fans who attend Reading and Leeds these days will have no idea who they are but the past few years we've had Faith No More, the Manics, Dinosaur Jr, The Fall and Belle & Sebastian play, all bands who the average goer nowadays isn't too familiar with. yutre
Malkmus played second from top of NME in 2001. But i think i just depends on the the amount of touring there prepared to do and also if fr really want them however i reckon that Leeds is probably more likely than any other uk festival next summer. rexclark
Excellent band. I could see them play the NME stage if they reform. Perhaps in mid afternoon like The fall did.

pink_triangle
You'd be surprised at how many people I spoke to in '08 struggled to name one Manics song. And I remember when B&S were announced in 2006 there was a lot of posts on here saying "who?".

scottt
Pavement are much more well known than Belle and Sebastian. Other than the theem from teachers most people at Reading wont have a clue who they are.
TalkShow Bob
No way. Belle and Sebatians had 2 albums charting higher than any of Pavements albums, not to mention they were more recent. Also add the Juno soundtrack to the list. scottt
Pavement had 3 top 20 UK albums, charting a few places lower than B&Ss two top twenty albums. Both of there major chart success came in the mid to late 90s but Pavement got a hell of a lot more radio play than Belle and Sebastian. Steven Malcamus has gone on to do fairly well for himself now too. I wouldn't really count being on a soundtrack to a film as being that major, Juno has already been forgotten by most. *edited to add* After speaking to some young wippersnappers that I know it may well be that im just old. Grumble Grumble evening session with steve lamaque was so much better than that zane lowe gumble grumble in my day bah!
TalkShow Bob
Haha, i wouldnt consider teachers major either. Just thought id add to the list.
hearing_aid
For those that are interested the Pavement reformation is all official now. http://www.crookedrain.com/ Though seems it will be a one off tour.

hearing_aid
If they play Cochella then i reckon they might be over here around May time to curate an ATP festival and to do some gigs, potentially that September gig in the US could be near the end of the tour. Matticus
apparently there playing the new york ATP, hoping to go.
hearing_aid
They said they will be doing UK shows, looking at the summer, though said they won't be doing any big dumb festivals. so think that could possibly rule Reading out. They played glasto in 1999 so I think if they do any big festivals that is where they will be.
Role Model
I'd like to think they don't regard Reading as a big dumb festival, they did use to play it in the 90's.
