inspectedinspector
i didnt say anything bad about the band or the albums. I just dont see how you can chat shit like that and buy anything Nike. Are they not the main company known for exploitation etc. I mean, even communists wear shoes, but you stay away from Nike, Disney and Mcdonalds. Otherwise you cant be taken seriously
Vieuphoria
Rage's preformance is so over hyped it really was not that good. it was good, yes, but nothing brilliant. As for this year i saw 3 of the best gigs i've ever been to, those being Soulsavers with Mark Lanea, Faith No More and Radiohead. All of which out did everything last year. I would say if i had to choose my top 3 headliners from this and last year it would be Faith No More, Manic Street Preachs and Radiohead. pink_triangle
my point was that some of us arnt interested in the politics that a band spouts, just the music.
rivalschools.price
my point was that some of us arnt interested in the politics that a band spouts, just the music.i found myself wanting anti flag and rise against to get on with the music when they started talking politics.oh well,at least the music was good when they started playing.if we were watching u2 we'd have to put up with bono talking politics then playing shite music,ha ha. incidentally, has anyone got a link to zach wearing nike trainers??? it seems to be something that people have quoted but i havent read about it anywhere.(im not doubting it,just havent seen it anywhere but on forums).has anyone challenged him on the fact that he wears nike,it seems quite a strange mistake for him to make. tomdsjames
I agree, at times I feel politics puts me off a band rather than respect them for thinking about the issues. The likes of green day have milked politics for every penny its worth and i swear fall out boy will still be moaning about george we bush in 2039. Benj
I remember last year a lot of people saying these were the three best performances of Reading and Leeds 2008. I was wondering if anyone thought any bands this year exceeded these performances. For me, personally, no. Regarding headliners, Radiohead put on a good show but it didn't come close to the sheer mindblowing abilities of Metallica and RATM. Prodigy and Kaiser Chiefs were excellent but their songs didn't tap into you like these three did, nor is their music what I'd call lifechanging. Ian Brown put on an admirable performance but didn't do much of a "classics" set (fair enough he only had 50 minutes but he was at a festival). Eagles Of Death Metal, another highlight, were good as always but they're a novelty band. As for the other two main stage headliners, Arctics and KOL. To even consider comparing their performances this year to RATM and Metallica last year =
pink_triangle
I supposed you'd have more respect for Green Day if they were still singing about drugs and masturbation at the age of 37?
VCK
With bands like RATM and the Manics, their political mindsets make them even more admirable because they know what they're talking about. Whereas bands like Green Day who think they're political because they go round saying "I hate Bush because he's an asshole!" just make me cringe. I wouldn't be surprised if Billie Joe Armstrong hasn't even heard of the Zapatistas, or half of the leaders mentioned in the song Revol. fat_man_joe
That explains it far better then i could. During the Bush regime there was defientely an element of bands following the crowd and dissing bush to gain publicity and favour from fans. As you say though for many it seemed to just be about f*** george bush without any evidence of them understanding the issues.
pink_triangle
They would never admit it but I suspect a lot of these songwriters from punk bands secretly hope for a republican win during election time to give them some ammunition for the next 4 years! olly!olly!olly!
Radiohead were by far better than anything on last year in my opinion. Other than that, last years headliners were much better than this years. Basically Radiohead saved this years festival
