JBarbour
From a tradition of getting glastonbury headliners I would guess for one of the Reading & Leeds 2010 headliners will be either Kasabian (sub headliners at Glast) Blur (if they ever do another gig, not looking as likely after comments from damon and a new gorillaz album on the way) if not blur then gorillaz?? Also can see The Specials making an appeance maybe sub headlining or headlining Radio 1/NME Other bands with albums late 2009 or 2010, not all headline bands, but can see these at either Glastonbury, Reading/Leeds, Download, TITP or V Noel Gallagher!! (Glastonbury second stage?) No Doubt (TITP) Beastie Boys (V?) Elbow (R&L) Linkin Park Cypress Hill Goo Goo Dolls Blink 182 (Download?) Angels & Airwaves (Tom DeLonge can only pick one band to tour with) Amy Winehouse (V or Glast) Velvet Revolver ------------------------------------------- Bands playing Glastonbury then Reading & Leeds following years Glastonbury 2007 - Arctic Monkeys + Killers Reading & Leeds 2008 - Killers Reading & Leeds 2009 - Artic Monkeys Glastonbury 2008 - Kings Of Leon Reading & Leeds 2009 - Kings of Leon Glastonbury 2007 - Kaiser Chiefs (support headliners) Reading & Leeds 2009 - Kaiser Chiefs (support headliners) Glastonbury 2007 - The Gossip (Headliners John Peel Stage) Support Headliner John Peel - Jamie T Reading & Leeds 2009 - The Gossip (Headliners NME) Support Headliner NME Stage - Jamie T Glastonbury 2004 - Muse Reading & Leeds 2006 Glastonbury 1999 - Manic Street Preachers Reading & Leeds 2001 Glastonbury 1998 - Pulp Reading & Leeds 2000 Glastonbury 1998 - Blur Reading & Leeds 1999 Glastonbury 1997 -The Prodigy Reading 1998 Glastonbury 1995 - The Stone Roses Reading 1996 Edited September 16, 2009 by craigb
scottt
Bands I see playing uk festivals next year: Pavement (if these rumours are true) Paramore Blink 182 Greenday Beastie Boys Linkin Park Iron Maiden Faith No More (if any new material is released) Glassjaw Less than Jake Arcade Fire Avenged Sevenfold Slipknot (should the tour last an extra year, as it seems it will) Alkaline Trio Foo Fighters
benissright
I dont think this proves anything other than that the same bands rotate around festivals.
VCK
Stone Roses didn't actually play Glasto. Squire was involved in some sort of cycling accident and they pulled out, with Pulp as their replacements.

benissright
Again, i would say its a coincedence. But theres not even enough examples to make it that!
JBarbour
about ten years of coincidences there! I got bored after a bit so prob is more bands. I do agree that some of the bands just rotate but they rotate from glastonbury to reading/leeds. there is a tie between the two festivals. festival republic manages glastonbury and owns reading/leeds Edited September 16, 2009 by craigb

howlin_pete
It also often happens because Glastonbury often take big gambles on their headliners and get them just before they go huge. Happened with Muse, KOL and to a certain extrent Arctic Monkeys

rexclark
most the examples given are just bands who have been doing the rounds most years so it's obvious if they don't play one of the big fests they'll play the other. JBarbour
Just looking at other festivals like V TITP etc and comparing them to glastonbury, there are some that you could say they play glastonbury one year then other festivals the next. But Reading/Leeds seems to have a lot more than any other festivals. Like someone said I think that glastonbury take a chance on artists that may not be a massive band at that moment they headline. Then the following years other festivals sign them based on there glastonbury appearance. I still think a lot of bands go from glastonbury to reading/leeds though
VCK
Already seen Rolf. Dont need to again. A good 60,000 people in a field meant for about 40,000 max. It was a squeeze.

howlin_pete
Since I've been going to festivals it seems to me that more bands are made at Glasto (Muse, KOL Jay-Z) and slayed at Reading (The Darkness, RHCP) in terms of big names in the festival circuit. VCK
I think KOL's headline performance at Reading this year might have hindered their reputation. Not saying they'll fade into obscurity but I think maybe festival promoters may reconsider booking them after Caleb's tantrum in future. eFestivals
there is a tie between the two festivals. festival republic manages glastonbury and owns reading/leeds Completely wrong. Melvin Benn in a personal capacity runs the site management at Glastonbury. Melvin and FR have nothing whatsoever to do with the acts that play Glastonbury. eFestivals
Muse and Jay Z were huge before Glasto, whilst KOL were pretty big but became huge because of Sex on fire. If you think of small acts (Arctc Monkeys, Klaxons etc) then Reading and Leeds is where they made it big. While Muse were big before headlining Glasto, lots of people didn't consider them as headline material until they actually got on the Glasto stage and proved that they were. If you care to check the Glasto forums (or even the V forums from that same year when they were announced as 2nd to Dido) you'll see that's true. Likewise, the same is true of KoL - the difference there tho is that they didn't convince the doubters by their show. And Klaxons still ain't big. ivan
God forbid that a band should release an album quicker than one every 3 years . Personaly I think it's great that those two bands have such a quick turn around of albums, it reminds of the times when bands had to be productive because they didn't know how long their popularity would last. Yes but KOL did headline Glasto last year , played V , did Leeds the year before that I think Oh and The Killers - Glasto 2007 , V 2007 , Leeds 2008 , V 2009
