95 sticks in my head. 2000 was pretty uncomfortable.

Let's be clear. I don't want rain. I want a constant, oh, let's say 20 Celsius.

Are you seriously telling me that if you went to stand in a shadeless field right now in today's weather, you wouldn't be wanting some shade within 30 minutes?

OK you lot over there what do you mean when you say hot, scorcher etc are you talking about in the 30's or are we still in the 20's? I am going to have to pack soon as we start on our journey from OZ and I reckon with the threads I've been reading I'm going with a less is best approach - just throw in a pair of levi's as well and just buy (or drink more cider) if I get chilly.

We don't get dry heat over here being on an island, so it can feel a little bit warmer with the humidity sometimes (especially just after rain :P), but at the end of the day direct sun is pretty hot anywhere.

It's impossible to know what the weather will be like at Glastonbury until the actual day. Weather is so changeable here, it can be torrential rain one minute, hot the next.

Must say that I'm still mucho concerned at the distinct lack of any decent amount of rain so far this year and the fact that the relevant amount of precipitation almost certainly has to come along sooner or later :P Am getting increasingly worried about an apparent peaking way too early scenario again I'm afraid :P The promised rain over Mayday weekend didn't actually amount to much in the end and apart from that there's not really been anything much in the last several months. Think we really need the average amount of wet stuff suitably dumped and outta the way before we get into June to kinda ensure mostly scorchio stylee conditions later in the month :P

It's happened before and could happen again.

In 95 they were towing huge tanks of water around the site, so they could spray the pathways and keep the dust down. Punters would flock to this spray, for some blessed relief from the heat.

And there was slow, heavy dub thumping out of many of the stalls.

(Shit, that's 15 years ago :P )

On the other hand, we went to Benicassim in Spain last year for guaranteed good weather and the place gets hit by ridick strong winds which blow parts of the main stage off, and causes the whole festival to be shut down at midnight - grr!

Mmm sounds like I will need to pack for what we call typical Melbourne weather (up and down) and not sunny Queensland weather like we are used to. Our summer is generally pretty consistent with the days being in the low to mid 30's with humidity generally anywhere between 75 and 99% - its literally like living in a steam room sometimes - looking forward to experiencing a taste of some english summer but like a lot of you I hate being in a steaming tent so hope we get the best of both worlds!!

I used to live in Melbourne and have spent quite a lot of time in the tropics (Queensland and all over the world). I'd say Melbourne weather is a lot closer to the UK, but the UK weather changes so quickly. If it's cloudy in the morning, it can feel quite cool, perhaps even cold if it's been raining. Later in the day, the sky might clear, and it could become quite warm/humid (quite high humidity whilst the rain water evaporates, but no where near as high as saturation point in the tropics).

We should get a good idea of the weather in the week of Glasto. I normally adjust what I take based on the last minute long-range forecast on the Tuesday night. Adding extra wet weather gear, shorts, or trousers depending.

Some years it can be pretty cold at night. I remember Wednesday night 2008 being cold. I had to go back to the tent to put on an extra fleece to sit up at the Stone Circle (I was already wearing a beanie hat).

Having an ice cold drink in the tropics is hilarious when the humidity is close to saturation, there's a constant stream of condensation water pouring off your drink.

Yeah the weather's going sh1t again after today, but I don't mind as long as it's all good for 22nd June! Think there's rain in the south this week too, maybe that will get some of it out the way ;D

Also, Sunny_State, remember that even if it's hot during the day, it can get pretty chilly at night, so you'll be glad of some layers even if the weather is fine.

Some cloud would also help here, keeping the heat in.

Glastonbury weekend is getting that bit closer to the BBC long range forcast now. The update now goes up to the 20th.

Monday 7 June 2010 to Sunday 20 June 2010

High pressure builds to provide a drier spell

The northwesterly flow is expected to decline as high pressure builds from the west. Although still unsettled at first in northern and eastern parts, all areas are expected to become drier and more settled.

Near average temperatures are expected to rise above average in the south. rainfall will be below average although close to it in the north and east early in the period.

Let's just hope the "above average temperatures and below average rainfall" in the south can hold out :P
